Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily manufacture a permanent magnet material excellent in magnetic properties by crushing an alloy having a specific composition consisting of Y-including rare-earth elements, Co, Fe, Ti, Zr, and Hf and subjecting the resulting powder to compaction in a magnetic field, to sintering at a specific temp., and then to rapid cooling. CONSTITUTION:An alloy having a composition represented by a general formula R(T1-yMy)z [where R means rare-earth elements including Y, T means Co or Co+Fe, M consists of at least one element among Ti, Zr, and Hf, and the symbols (y) and (z) stand for 0.001-0.05 and 5-6, respectively] is crushed and pulverized. This pulverized alloy is compacted in a magnetic field of about 20kOe at a pressure of about 4t/cm<2>. The resulting green compact is sintered in vacuum or in an inert gas at a temp. in a region of 1,100-1,200 deg.C. This sintered compact is subjected to sintering and then to rapid cooling without delay or is subjected to sintering and then to furnace cooling, and subsequently, the sintered compact is subjected to solution heat treatment and then to rapid cooling. By this method, the permanent magnet material improved in magnetic properties while maintaining easily magnetizable characteristic can be obtained.
