Abstract

PURPOSE:To accurately measure torque under a vacuum with a simple constitution by arranging a bearing for testing in a vacuum container, energizing a housing which holds the outer ring axially with a spring, and detecting friction torque by a load cell. CONSTITUTION:The inner rings of bearings 15a and 15b for testing are mounted on a driving shaft 13 in the vacuum container 10 and their outer rings are held by housings 16a and 16b. The housings 16a and 16b are energized axially by the spring mechanism 17. In this state, the load cell 20 detects the friction torque applied to the outer rings through the inner rings of the bearings 15a and 15b associatively with the rotary driving of the driving shaft 13. Therefore, the friction torque is accurately recognized while the bearings 15a and 15b are put in nearly the same vacuum atmosphere with the space, thereby improving the reliability of the bearings which are used in the space.
