Abstract

PURPOSE:To accurately detect a ratio close to an ideal air fuel ratio and to detect an air fuel ratio which is specified from a rich range to a lean range by constituting the sensor by combining an ideal air fuel ratio sensor and a wide-range air fuel ratio sensor with each other. CONSTITUTION:Two electrodes 11 and 21 are provided on the reference air side of a solid-state electrolyte 1 and a catalystic electrode 12 which provides oxidizing catalysis and a semi-catalytic electrode 22 which weakens the oxidizing catalysis are provided on the exhaust side, and the ideal air fuel ratio sensor 10 is formed of the electrodes 11 and 12, and the wide-range air fuel ratio sensor 20 is formed of the electrodes 21 and 22. Then the 1st and 2nd sensors 10 and 20 are wired on the solid-state electrolyte 1 in series and electromotive force characteristics of the both are put together and outputted. Therefore, an air fuel ratio close to the ideal air fuel ratio is detected by the sensor 10 with sufficient accuracy and an air fuel ratio from the rich range to the lean range is specified and detected by the sensor 20.
