Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce variation in measurement sensitivity due to a difference in oil kind and to measure even oil with high concentration by detecting the concentration from the transmitted light intensity of sample water on a transparent beltlike film and the amount of hydrocarbon by heating. CONSTITUTION:The transparent beltlike film band F is moved horizontally and oil-containing sample water L is supplied thereto by a specific amount; and the output light of a light source 2 is projected and a photodetector 3 detects its transmitted light intensity. Then the sample water L is heated by a heater 4 and a gas sensor 5 detects the amount of produced hydrocarbon. The output signals of the photodetector 3 and gas sensor 5 are inputted to a calculator 6 to calculate oil concentration. In this case, the transmitted light intensity has better sensitivity to light oil and the amount of hydrocarbon, on the other hand, better sensitivity to heavy oil, but the both are averaged and arithmetic operation is performed, so variation in sensitivity due to a difference in oil kind is reduced and even oil of thousands of ppm can be measured.
