Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the number of channels more than the product of a wavelength division multiplicity and a time division multiplicity with the small number of parts by using plural variable wavelength selecting elements and an optical time switch wavelength converting circuit and converting a wavelength division multiplex and time division multiplex optical signal. CONSTITUTION:In the case of the wavelength time switch of the wavelength division multiplicity 2 and the time division multiplicity 2, the time division optical signal of the wavelength lambda1, lambda2 on an input light highway 1 is inputted to the variable wavelength selecting elements 3, 4 via an optical branching device 2. The elements 3, 4 select any wavelength for every time slot T1, T2, feed to the optical time switches 4, 5 to arbitrarily move between the time slots. The variable wavelength converting circuits 6, 7 respectively convert the outputs of the switches 4, 5 to any of the wavelength lambda1, lambda2 for every time slot and output. The output is synthesized in a photosynthesizer 8 and fed to an output highway 9. The conventional three step constitution is formed of one step to reduce the parts remarkably.
