Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a novel tertiary carboxylic acid composition, consisting essentially of a hardly esterifiable carboxylic acid as a principal component and suitable for producing ester compound having excellent hydrolytic resistance and high safety. CONSTITUTION:A carboxylic acid composition containing a 9C tertiary carboxylic acid and/or 13C tertiary carboxylic acid as a principal component and >=55wt.%, further preferably >=90wt.% tertiary carboxylic acid with >=40wt.% esterification ratio prepared by esterification reaction under specific condition. The esterification reaction is carried out by using methanol in an amount of 400pts.wt. based on 100pts.wt. carboxylic acid composition in the presence of zinc acetate in an amount of 5.4wt.% based on the above-mentioned carboxylic acid composition. The tertiary carboxylic acid ester is useful in a wide range of blending agents, solvent, etc., for coatings.
