Description

액정 표시장치{LIQUID CRYSTAL DISLAY USING THE SAME}
본 실시예들은 액정 표시장치에 관한 것이다.
액정표시장치(Liquid Crystal Display)는 액정(Liquid Crystal)을 이용하여 영상을 디스플레이하는 평판표시장치의 하나로서, 얇고 가벼우며 낮은 소비전력을 갖는 장점으로 인해 산업 전반에 걸쳐 광범위하게 사용되고 있다. 액정표시장치는 영상을 표시하기 위한 백라이트 유닛에서 발광하는 빛을 액정의 배열을 변화시켜 빛을 선택적으로 투과하여 영상을 표시할 수 있다. 이러한 액정표시장치는 백라이트 유닛의 광원으로 발광다이오드(Light Emitting Diode: LED), CCFL(Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp), HCLF(Hot Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) 등이 사용된다. 최근에는 광효율이 우수하고 색재현율이 높은 발광다이오드가 백라이트 유닛의 광원으로 널리 사용되고 있다.
모바일 장치의 보급과 미관의 수려함으로 인해 최근에는 액정 표시장치를 보다 슬림하고 가볍게 구현한다. 이를 위해 도광판과 표시패널을 직접 접촉시켜 액정표시장치를 얇게 구현할 수 있다. 하지만, 이러한 경우, 도광판의 입광부와 광원의 얼라인(Aline)을 맞추고 고정하기 위해 별도의 부품을 사용하게 되는 경우가 발생하게 되어 액정표시장치를 얇게 구현하는데 제약이 발생하게 되는 문제점이 있다.
본 실시예들의 목적은 도광판과 광원의 얼라인을 간편하게 할 수 있는 액정 표시장치를 제공하는 것이다.
본 실시예들의 또 다른 목적은 두께가 얇은 액정 표시장치를 제공하는 것이다.
일측면에서, 본 실시예들은, 표시패널, 복수의 LED를 포함하는 LED 패키지와, LED 패키지가 실장되는 PCB와, 입광면이 LED 패키지에 대향되며 표시패널의 하면에 배치되는 도광판을 포함하는 백라이트 유닛, 도광판의 하면을 지지하는 백커버, 측면이 PCB에 접하고 상면이 백커버의 하면의 일 영역에 접하는 하우징, 및 표시패널의 엣지부분과 하우징의 하부 엣지부분에 힘을 가하는 상부 케이스를 포함하는 액정 표시장치를 제공하는 것이다.
본 실시예들에 의하면, 도광판과 표시패널이 직접 닿는 경우에 별도의 장비를 사용하지 않더라도 도광판과 광원의 얼라인을 용이하게 하는 액정 표시장치를 제공할 수 있다.
또한, 본 실시예들에 의하면, 부품수를 줄여 보다 얇게 구현될 수 있는 액정표시장치를 제공할 수 있다.

도 5는 본 실시예에 따른 액정표시장치 측부의 제4실시예를 나타내는 단면도이다.

이하, 본 발명의 일부 실시예들을 예시적인 도면을 참조하여 상세하게 설명한다. 각 도면의 구성요소들에 참조부호를 부가함에 있어서, 동일한 구성요소들에 대해서는 비록 다른 도면상에 표시되더라도 가능한 한 동일한 부호를 가질 수 있다. 또한, 본 발명을 설명함에 있어, 관련된 공지 구성 또는 기능에 대한 구체적인 설명이 본 발명의 요지를 흐릴 수 있다고 판단되는 경우에는 그 상세한 설명은 생략할 수 있다.
또한, 본 발명의 구성 요소를 설명하는 데 있어서, 제 1, 제 2, A, B, (a), (b) 등의 용어를 사용할 수 있다. 이러한 용어는 그 구성 요소를 다른 구성 요소와 구별하기 위한 것일 뿐, 그 용어에 의해 해당 구성 요소의 본질, 차례, 순서 또는 개수 등이 한정되지 않는다. 어떤 구성 요소가 다른 구성요소에 "연결", "결합" 또는 "접속"된다고 기재된 경우, 그 구성 요소는 그 다른 구성요소에 직접적으로 연결되거나 또는 접속될 수 있지만, 각 구성 요소 사이에 다른 구성 요소가 "개재"되거나, 각 구성 요소가 다른 구성 요소를 통해 "연결", "결합" 또는 "접속"될 수도 있다고 이해되어야 할 것이다.
도 1a는 본 실시예에 따른 액정표시장치의 일실시예를 나타내는 분해사시도이고, 도 1b는 도 1a에 도시된 상부 커버의 일 실시예를 나타내는 평면도이다. 도 1c는 도 1a에 도시된 상부 커버의 일 실시예를 나타내는 하부 저면도이다.
도 1a 내지 도 1c를 참조하면, 액정표시장치(100)는 표시패널(110), 백라이트 유닛(120), 하우징(130) 및 상부 커버(140)를 포함할 수 있다.
표시패널(110)은 액정층(미도시)을 사이에 두고 서로 대면되어 합착된 제1기판(미도시)과 제2기판(미도시)을 포함한다. 제1기판에는 다수의 게이트라인과 데이터라인이 교차하고, 각 교차지점마다 박막 트랜지스터가 구비되게 하여 복수의 화소를 형성할 수 있다. 그리고, 박막트랜지스터를 제어하여 각 화소별로 액정의 분자의 배열을 조절할 수 있다. 그리고, 제2기판에는 각 화소에 대응하는 적색, 녹색, 청색의 컬러필터와, 각 화소들을 사이에 배열되는 블랙매트릭스와, 공통전극이 형성되도록 할 수 있다. 그리고, 표시패널(110)은 제1기판과 제2기판의 외면에 각각 부착되는 제1편광판 및 제2편광판을 포함할 수 있다.
백라이트 유닛(120)은 표시패널(110)의 하부에 배치될 수 있다. 백라이트 유닛(120)은 광원과, 광원에서 방출되는 빛을 면광원으로 표시패널(110)에 공급하는 도광판을 포함할 수 있다. 광원은 발광다이오드(Light Emitting Diode:LED)일 수 있다. 여기서, 백라이트 유닛(120)은 일정한 두께를 갖는 직사각형 형상을 갖고 있는 것으로 도시되어 있지만, 이는 설명의 편의를 위해 나타낸 것이며 자세한 구조는 하기의 도 2 내지 도 5에 도시된다.
하우징(130)은 백라이트유닛(120)과 표시패널(110)을 수납하며, 백라이트 유닛(120)의 광원과 도광판의 얼라인(Aline)을 맞출 수 있게 할 수 있다. 광원과 도광판의 얼라인은 광원에서 방출되는 빛의 중심선과 도광판의 입광면의 중심선을 일치시키는 것을 의미할 수 있다. 하지만 이에 한정되는 것은 아니며 광원에서 방출된 빛의 광효율이 높게 도광판으로 전달될 수 있는 위치에 광원과 도광판이 위치하도록 하는 것일 수 있다. 광효율은 광원에서 전달된 빛이 도광판으로 전달되는 양에 대응할 수 있다. 광원과 도광판의 얼라인이 일치하지 않게 되면 표시패널(110)로 전달되는 빛의 광효율이 떨어지는 문제점이 발생하게 되기 때문에 얼라인을 맞추고 유지하는 것은 중요하며, 하우징(130)에 백라이트유닛(120)과 표시패널(110)을 수납하면 하우징(130)의 형상에 의해 광원과 도광판의 얼라인이 맞춰지도록 함으로써 간편하게 얼라인을 맞출 수 있다. 또한, 하우징(130)은 백라이트 유닛(120)의 뒷면 전체를 커버하지 않고 백라이트 유닛(120)의 일부를 커버할 수 있다. 특히, 표시장치(100)를 세워서 사용하는 경우, 하우징(130)은 백라이트 유닛(120)의 뒷면 아래쪽에 배치될 수 있다.
상부커버(140)는 하우징(130)에 수납되어 광원과 도광판의 얼라인이 맞춰진 상태에서 백라이트유닛(120), 표시패널(110)이 고정되도록 하여 도광판과 광원의 얼라인이 틀어지는 것을 방지할 수 있다. 또한, 상부커버(140)는 전면에서 보면 도 1b에 도시되어 있는 것과 같이 상면(140a)이 형태로 형성되며, 사각형의 표시패널(110)의 전면 엣지 영역 중 한쪽 변의 엣지 영역과 한쪽 변과 연결되어 있는 두개의 변의 엣지 영역 일부를 가리게 될 수 있다. 여기서, 표시패널(110)의 엣지영역은 표시패널(110) 전면에 일정한 폭을 갖는 테두리 부분을 의미할 수 있다. 또한, 도 1c에 도시되어 있는 것과 같이 상부커버(140)를 후면에서 보면, 상부커부(140)은 하면(140c)이 형성되고 하면(140c)에 의해 하우징(130)의 엣지영역을 지지할 수 있다. 상부커버(140)에 의해 표시패널(110)과 백라이트유닛(120)의 결합을 고정할 수 있어 하우징(130)에 의해 얼라인이 맞춰져 있는 도광판과 광원이, 외부의 충격, 온도 변화 등으로 인해 얼라인이 틀어지는 것을 방지할 수 있다.
또한, 상부커버(140)의 측면(140b)은 밴딩되어 단차를 형성할 수 있다. 단차에 의해 상부커버(140)는 탄성력을 가지게 되어 탄성력에 의해 상부커버(140)에 하우징(130)에 수납되어 있는 백라이트 유닛(120)과 표시패널(110)의 삽입이 보다 편리하게 할 수 있고 외부의 충격 또는 온도변화에 따른 도광판의 팽창 등이 발생하더라도 상부커버(140)에 의해 도광판과 광원이 하우징(130)에 고정되도록 하여 얼라인이 틀어지는 것을 방지할 수 있다.
도 2는 도 1에 도시된 표시장치의 측부의 제1실시예를 나타내는 단면도이고, 도 3은 본 실시예에 따른 표시장치 측부의 제2실시예를 나타내는 단면도이고, 도 4는 본 실시예에 따른 표시장치 측부의 제3실시예를 나타내는 단면도이고, 도 5는 본 실시예에 따른 표시장치 측부의 제4실시예를 나타내는 단면도이다.
도 2 내지 도 5를 참조하면, 표시장치(100)는 하우징(216) 상에 도광판(214)의 하면을 지지하는 백커버(215)가 배치되고, 백커버(215) 상부에 도광판(214)이 배치될 수 있다. 그리고, 하우징(216)의 측면에 복수의 LED를 포함하는 LED 패키지(217a)가 실징되는 PCB(217b)가 배치되어 도광판(214)의 입광면에 LED가 대향되도록 배치될 수 있다. 그리고, 도광판(214) 상면에 표시패널(110)이 배치될 수 있다. 여기서, LED 패키지(217a)를 실장하는 PCB(217b), 도광판(214), 백커버(215)가 도 1의 백라이트 유닛(120)에 해당될 수 있다.
하우징(216)은 단차를 갖고 형성되어 단턱부(216a)가 형성되며, 단턱부(216a)에 백커버(215)의 일영역이 접할 수 있게 된다. 단턱부(216a)에 의해 백커버(215)의 일영역이 하우징(216)에 접촉할 수 있도록 하면, 백커버(215)와 하우징(216)의 접촉면적이 줄어들어 백커버(215)의 측면에 배치되어 있는 LED 패키지(217a)가 실장된 PCB(217b)에서 발생된 열이 하우징(216)에서 백커버(215)로 전달이 잘 이루어지지 않도록 할 수 있다. 단턱부(216a)는 도 2에 도시되어 있는 것과 같이 PCB(217b)에 가까운 곳이 형성될 수 있다. 형성된 단턱부(216a)에 의해 하우징(216)이 백커버(215)의 하면 전체에 접촉하지 않고 단턱부(216a)만 백커버(215)의 테두리부분에 접촉하게 된다.
또한, 하우징(216)의 단턱부(216a)의 끝단에는 제1돌출부(216b)가 형성되고 제1돌출부(216b)는 백커버(215)와 PCB(217b) 사이에 끼워져 제1돌출부(216b)의 상면이 도광판(214)의 테두리를 지지할 수 있다. 그리고, 하우징(216)의 측면에 PCB(217b)를 본딩하여 부착되되록 하여 PCB(217b)가 하우징(216)의 측면에 고정되도로 함으로써 LED 패키지(217a) 내의 LED와 도광판(214)의 입광면의 얼라인을 맞출 수 있다.
또한, 도 3에 도시되어 있는 것과 같이 하우징(316)의 측면의 하부에 제2돌출부(316c)가 형성될 수 있다. 제2돌출부(316c)는 PCB(317b)의 하부를 지지할 수 있도록 할 수 있다. 제2돌출부(316c)에 의해 PCB(317b)의 하부가 지지되어 PCB(317b)에 실장되어 있는 LED 패키지(317a)와 도광판(314)의 입광면을 보다 쉽게 얼라인 할 수 있다.
또한, PCB(217b)와 하우징(216)이 접하는 면은 본딩에 의해 고정될 수 있다. 여기서, 본딩은 접착제를 이용하여 고정하는 것을 의미하지만, 여기서는 이에 한정되는 것은 아니며 스크류를 이용하여 고정하는 것도 의미할 수 있다.
또한, 도 4에 도시되어 있는 것과 같이 단턱부(415a)는 하우징(416)의 PCB(417b)와 접하는 측면과 먼쪽에 형성되도록 할 수 있다.
그리고, 도광판(214)의 상면에 표시패널(110)이 배치될 수 있다. 표시패널(110)은 액정층(미도시)을 사이에 두고 서로 대면하고 있는 제1기판(211a)과 제2기판(211b)을 포함할 수 있다. 또한, 표시패널(110)은 제1기판(211a)의 상면과 제2기판(211b)의 하면에 각각 부착되는 제1편광판(212a)과 제2편광판(2112b)을 포함할 수 있다. 그리고, 표시패널(110)의 하면의 적어도 일부면이 도광판(214) 상면의 적어도 일부면과 직접 접촉할 수 있다. 표시패널(110) 하면의 적어도 일부면은 표시패널의 하면 중 제2편광판(212b)이 부착된 면일 수 있다. 도광판(214)이 표시패널(110)에 직접 접촉하게 되면, 표시장치(100)의 두께를 보다 얇게 구현할 수 있다.
상부케이스(219)는 표시패널(110)의 상면의 엣지 영역과 하우징(216)의 하면의 엣지영역에 힘을 가하여 표시패널(110)과 도광판(214)이 고정되도록 할 수 있다. 또한, 상부 케이스(219)는 표시패널(110)의 상면 엣지 영역과 하우징(216)의 하면 엣지 영역 중 도광판(214)의 입광면과 광원과 가까운 엣지 영역에 상부케이스(219)가 체결될 수 있어 상부케이스(219)에 의해 도광판(214)의 입광면과 광원의 얼라인이 유지되도록 할 수 있다. 도광판(214)이 열팽창이나 외부에서 힘이 가해지더라도, 상부케이스(219)가 표시패널(110)을 누르고 있도록 하여 도광판(214)과 LED 패키지(217a)의 얼라인이 틀어지는 것을 방지할 수 있다. 또한, 상부 케이스(219)는 표시패널(110)의 상면 엣지영역을 커버하는 상면(219a)과, 하우징(216)의 하면의 엣지영역을 커버하는 하면(219c)과, 상면(219a)과 하면(219c)을 연결하며 밴딩되어 있는 측면(219b)을 포함할 수 있다. 상부 케이스(219)의 측면(219b)이 밴딩되어 있게 되면 밴딩에 의해 상부 케이스(219)에 탄성력이 발생하고 탄성력에 의해 상부 케이스(219)의 체결력이 더 강하게 할 수 있다.
또한, 상부케이스(219)의 하면(219c)은 하우징(216)의 하면의 일부를 커버하도록 함으로써 상부 케이스(219) 내에 하우징(216), 표시패널(110)을 쉽게 안착시킬 수 있게 할 수 있다. 또한, 상부 케이스(219)의 상면의 표시패널(110)의 전면과 접하는 면에 표시패널(110) 전면의 엣지 영역에 접촉하여 힘을 하는 제3돌출부(219d)를 더 포함할 수 있다. 제3돌출부(219d)에 의해 상부 케이스(219)의 상면(219a)이 표시패널의 제1기판(211a)을 누루는 힘이 집중되도록 할 수 있고, 또한, 상부 케이스(219)의 상면(219a)이 표시패널(110)을 누르는 힘이 제3돌출부(219d)에 의해 수직 방향으로 가해져 보다 효율적으로 상부 케이스(219)가 표시패널(110)을 누르게 되고 이로 인해 외벽이나 주변 온도 상승으로 인한 팽창에 의해 도광판(214)이 위로 솟아 오르는 것을 방지하여 얼라인이 틀어지는 것을 방지할 수 있다.
또한, 하우징(216)은 백커버(215)의 하면의 일 영역에 접하는 단턱부(216b)의 상면이 상부 케이스(219)가 힘을 가하는 표시패널(110)의 상부 엣지부분과 중첩되도록 하여 상부 케이스(219)가 누르는 힘이 하우징(216)의 단턱부(216a) 까지 전달되도록 함으로써 상부 케이스(219)에 의한 결합력에 효율이 높아질 수 있도록 한다.
또한, LED 패키지(217a)와 도광판(214)의 입광면 사이의 간격에 의해 발생되는 광손실에 의한 핫스팟(Hot Spot)을 방지하기 위해 LED 패키지(217a)와 도광판(214) 사이에 도광판(214)의 입광면과 인접한 도광판(214)의 상부면에 차광막(217a)을 배치할 수 있다. 차광막(217a)은 절연테이프를 이용할 수 있어 간편하게 핫스팟을 방지할 수 있다. 이로 인해, 별도의 구조물이 사용하지 않고 핫스팟을 방지할 수 있어 표시장치(100)를 보다 얇게 구현할 수 있다.
또한, 도 5에 도시되어 있는 것과 같이 액정표시장치는 도광판(514)과 표시패널(511a,511b,512a,512b) 사이에 배치되는 적어도 하나의 광학시트를 더 포함할 수 있다. 적어도 하나의 광학시트는 확산시트(513a), 프리즘시트(513b), 보호시트(513c) 중 하나일 수 있다. 따라서, 액정표시장치는 도 2 내지 도 4에 도시되어 있는 것과 같이 도광판(514)과 표시패널(511a,511b,512a,512b)이 직접 닿아 보다 얇게 구현될 수 있고 도 5에 도시되어 있는 것과 같이 도광판(514)과 표시패널(511a,511b,512a,512b) 사이에 광학시트가 포함되도록 하여 백라이트 유닛의 광질을 더 좋아지게 할 수 있다.
도 6은 도 2 내지 도 5에 채용된 PCB의 일 실시예를 나타내는 사시도이다.
도 6을 참조하면, PCB(617b)에는 배선(미도시)이 내장되어 배선을 통해 전원을 공급받을 수 있다. 그리고, PCB(617b)의 일 끝단에 복수의 LED(617a) 가 일렬로 배열되어 있고 배선과 연결되어 각 LED(617a)들은 전원을 공급받아 빛을 발광할 수 있다. 여기서, 일렬로 배열되어 있는 복수의 LED를 도 2 내지 도 5에 개시되어 있는 LED 패키지라고 칭할 수 있다. PCB(617b)의 크기와 PCB(617b) 상에 배열되는 LED의 위치를 특정하면, PCB(617b)가 하우징의 측면에 정확히 부착되게 함으로써 LED(617b)와 도광판의 입광면의 얼라인을 쉽게 맞출 수 있다.
이상에서의 설명 및 첨부된 도면은 본 발명의 기술 사상을 예시적으로 나타낸 것에 불과한 것으로서, 본 발명이 속하는 기술 분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진 자라면 본 발명의 본질적인 특성에서 벗어나지 않는 범위에서 구성의 결합, 분리, 치환 및 변경 등의 다양한 수정 및 변형이 가능할 것이다. 따라서, 본 발명에 개시된 실시예들은 본 발명의 기술 사상을 한정하기 위한 것이 아니라 설명하기 위한 것이고, 이러한 실시예에 의하여 본 발명의 기술 사상의 범위가 한정되는 것은 아니다. 본 발명의 보호 범위는 아래의 청구범위에 의하여 해석되어야 하며, 그와 동등한 범위 내에 있는 모든 기술 사상은 본 발명의 권리범위에 포함되는 것으로 해석되어야 할 것이다.

Claims (8)

  1. 표시패널;
    복수의 LED를 포함하는 LED 패키지와, 상기 LED 패키지가 실장되는 PCB와, 입광면이 상기 LED 패키지에 대향되며 상기 표시패널의 하면에 배치되는 도광판을 포함하는 백라이트 유닛;
    상기 도광판의 하면을 지지하는 백커버;
    측면이 상기 PCB에 접하고 상면이 상기 백커버의 하면의 일 영역에 접하는 단턱부가 형성된 하우징; 및
    상기 표시패널의 상부 엣지부분과 상기 하우징의 하부 엣지부분에 힘을 가하는 상부 케이스를 포함하고,
    상기 단턱부의 끝단에 제1돌출부가 형성되며, 상기 제1돌출부는 상기 PCB와 상기 백커버의 측면 사이에 삽입되어 일측면이 상기 PCB의 측면에 접하고 다른 일측면이 상기 백커버의 측면에 접하며 상면의 일 영역이 상기 도광판의 하부에 접하는 액정표시장치.
  2. 삭제
  3. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 하우징은 상기 측면의 하부의 일 영역에 돌출된 제2돌출부를 포함하고, 상기 제2돌출부의 상면이 상기 PCB의 하면을 지지하는 액정표시장치.
  4. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 도광판의 상부면 중 상기 입광면과 인접한 상부면에 차광막이 배치되는 액정표시장치.
  5. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 상부 케이스는 표시패널의 상면 엣지영역을 커버하는 상면과, 하우징의 하면의 엣지영역을 커버하는 하면과, 상기 상면과 상기 하면을 연결하며 밴딩되어 있는 측면을 포함하는 액정표시장치.
  6. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 상부 케이스의 상면의 표시패널과 접하는 단턱부의 상면이 상기 표시패널의 엣지 영역에 접촉하여 힘을 가하는 제3돌출부를 포함하는 액정표시장치.
  7. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 하우징은 상기 백커버의 하면의 일 영역에 접하는 부분이 상기 상부 케이스가 힘을 가하는 상기 표시패널의 상부 엣지부분과 중첩되는 액정표시장치.
  8. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 도광판과 상기 표시패널 사이에 배치되는 적어도 하나의 광학시트를 더 포함하는 액정표시장치.
