Claims (9)
- P 비트/초의 광학적 신호를 생성하는 광학적 변조기로서,연속적인 파장 광학적 신호로부터 일련의 광학적 펄스를 발생하는 펄스 카버(pulse carver)와,상기 일련의 광학적 펄스로부터 일련의 보다 높은 주파수 광학적 펄스를 생성하는 간섭계를 포함하며,상기 간섭계는 입력 커플러, 출력 커플러, 및 상기 입력 커플러를 상기 출력 커플러에 접속하는 N개의 광학적 도광관 암(arms)을 포함하며, 상기 도광관 암의 각각은 인접하는 도광관 암으로부터 1/P의 경로 길이 차를 나타내고 상기 N개의 암의 각각은 P/N 비트/초에서 동작하는 강도 변조기 및 상기 암을 진행하는 광학적 신호의 위상을 조정하는 위상 쉬프터를 가지며,상기 위상 쉬프터는 상기 출력 커플러의 효과를 통해 상기 암을 가로지르는(traversing) 광학적 신호의 상대 위상이 동위상으로 부가되도록 조정되는광학적 변조기.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 위상 쉬프터는 상기 암을 가로지르는 광학적 신호의 상대 위상이 연속적으로 긴 암에 대해 역위상으로 부가되도록 조정되어, 반송파 억제 영 회 피(carrier suppressed return-to-zero : CSRZ) 신호를 생성하는광학적 변조기.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 간섭계는 반사형 구성이고 상기 도광관 암의 각각은 1/2P의 경로 길이 차를 나타내는광학적 변조기.
- 제 2 항에 있어서,상기 간섭계는 반사형 구성이고 상기 도광관 암의 각각은 1/2P의 경로 길이 차를 나타내는광학적 변조기.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,단일의 커플러는 입력 커플러 및 출력 커플러로서 작용하며, 상기 변조기가 통합되는 칩의 에지는 소정 수의 강도 변조기를 갖는 에지에서 고 반사 코딩을 포함하는광학적 변조기.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 펄스 카버는 전기 흡수(electroabsorption) 변조기를 포함하는광학적 변조기.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 소정 수의 강도 변조기는 전기 흡수 변조기를 포함하는광학적 변조기.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,연속적인 파장 레이저를 더 포함하는광학적 변조기.
- 제 2 항에 있어서,연속적인 파장 레이저를 더 포함하는광학적 변조기.
