랩핑가능한 멀티 레이어 히트 실드{WRAPPABLE MULTI-LAYER HEAT SHIELD}
본 출원은 2013년 8월 26일자로 출원된 미국가출원 제61/869,859호 및 2014년 8월 26일자로 출원된 미국실용신안출원 제14/468,858호의 이익을 주장하고, 이는 그 전체로 참조사항으로 본 명세서에 통합되어 있다.
본 발명은 대체로 서멀 히트 실드(thermal heat shield)에 관한 것이고, 보다 상세하게는 랩핑가능한 멀티레이어 서멀 히트 실드에 관한 것이다.
차량 배출물에 관한 표준은 산화질소와 일산화탄소의 배출을 줄이도록 점점 엄격해지고 있다. 이러한 가스들의 배출을 줄이는 것을 촉진하기 위하여, 다수의 차량 적용처는, 예컨대 선택적 촉매 환원(selective catalytic reduction; SCR) 적용처를 포함한다. SCR 적용처는 통상적으로 암모니아 또는 요소 용액을 촉매 변환기의 상류의 배기 파이프 속으로 주입하기 위한 도관들이 통합되어 있다. 주입된 용액은 증발하고 배기 가스와 혼합되어 산화질소와 일산화탄소 배출물은 줄이는 대신 질소와 물이 생기는 화학 반응을 만들어 낸다. 그러나, SCR 적용처를 효율적으로 실행하기 위해서는 주입된 용액과 혼합되는 배기 가스가 최대 고온 상태로 유지되는 것이 필요하고, 그렇지 않으면 산화질소와 일산화탄소의 의도된 화학 변환은 불리하게 영향을 받거나 비효율적이고, 이로써 원치않는 배출물이 생길 수 있다. 따라서, 배기 가스를 상류의 배기 시스템을 따라 SCR 시스템 내부에 최대 온도 상태로 유지하는 것이 바람직하면서도 중요하다.
본 발명의 일 양태에 따르면, 가요성이면서 랩핑가능한 멀티레이어형 히트 실드가 제공된다. 히트 실드는 반사성 최외측 레이어, 고온용 실(high temperature yarn; 높은 온도를 견디는 실 등을 의미하며, 이는 명세서 전체로 동일함)로 된 최내측 레이어, 및 최외측 레이어와 최내측 레이어 사이에 끼워져 있는 부직포 재료로 된 중간매개 레이어(intermediate layer)를 포함한다. 따라서, 히트 실드는 서로 보호하는 적어도 3개의 상이한 레이어들로 구성되는데, 여기서 서로 보호하는 방식은 히트 실드를 전체적으로 의도된 바와 같이 기능하게 하는 시너지있는 결과를 제공하기 위해서 각각의 레이어로 하여금 따로따로 기능하게 하는 방식 또는 함께 기능하게 하는 방식이다.
히트 실드는 배기 시스템 내부에서 유동하는 고온 배기 가스의 열 손실을 최소화함으로써 배기 시스템 내부에서의 선택적 촉매 환원 시스템(SCR)의 최상의 성능을 촉진하는 배기 시스템 히트 실드로서 특히 유용하다. 따라서, 배기 시스템의 SCR 시스템에 걸친 배기 가스 유동은 히트 실드에 의해 SCR 시스템 내부에서 최대 온도로 유지되고, 배기 가스는 엔진으로부터 최초로 배출된 것에 비해 최소 온도로 강하된 상태이다. 따라서, 배기 가스 내부에서의 산화질소와 일산화탄소의 질소와 물로의 최상의 화학 변환은 SCR 시스템에 의해 달성된다.
히트 실드의 최내측 레이어, 최외측 레이어 및 중간매개 레이어는 제한없는 예로써 고온 접착제, 재봉(sewing) 및 기계적 패스너를 포함하는 다양한 메커니즘을 이용하여 서로 고정될 수 있다.
히트 실드는 대체로 편평한 라미네이션으로서 형성된 것으로 주어져 있는데, 예컨대 다이 커팅(die cutting)과 같은 것을 이용하여 원하는 바와 같이 순차적인 랩핑(wrapping; 어떤 대상을 둘둘 말거나 감싸는 동작 또는 그러한 상태를 말하고, 이는 명세서 전체로 동일함)을 위한 크기와 형상을 가질 수 있다.
본 발명의 여러 가지 양태, 특징 및 이점은 현재의 바람직한 실시예와 최선의 실시예에 관한 다음에 오는 발명의 상세한 설명, 첨부된 청구범위 및 첨부의 도면과 관련하여 고려하면 보다 용이하게 이해될 것이다.

도면에 대해 보다 상세하게 참조하면, 도 1에는, 제한없는 예로써 전체적으로 부재번호 12로 나타나 있는 배기 시스템의 차폐된 부분에 대한 열적 효과와 다른 환경적 효과에 대비하여 원하는 차폐를 제공하는, 본 발명의 일 양태에 따라 구성되되 이하에서는 히트 실드(10)로 지칭되는 랩핑가능하며 가요성인 멀티 레이어 히트 실드가 도시되어 있다. 히트 실드(10)는 다수의 차폐 이점들, 즉 배기 시스템(12) 내부에서의 고온의 배기 가스가 외부 주위 환경(E)으로 복사되는 것을 방지하는 것, 이로써 고온의 배기 가스의 열 손실을 방지하는 것, 외부 주위 환경(E)의 열적 효과가 배기 시스템 상의 외부 대류를 포함하는 배기 시스템 내부의 고온의 배기 가스의 온도를 낮추는 것을 방지하는 것, 그리고 나아가 유체와 같은 외부 환경 요소가 배기 시스템(12)의 차폐된 부분 내부에서의 배기 가스의 온도에 영향을 미치거나 배기 가스의 온도를 낮추거나 다른 온도에 도달하는 것을 방지하는 것을 포함하는 이점들을 제공하지만 이것으로 제한되지 않는다. 따라서, 배기 시스템(12)으로부터의 열적 손실에 대비하여 원하는 차폐를 제공함으로써, 배기 시스템(12) 내부에서의 선택적 촉매 환원 시스템은 산화질소와 일산화탄소가 환경에 도달하는 것을 방지하기 위해서 산화질소와 일산화탄소와 같은 고온의 배기 가스를 의도된 바와 같이 질소와 물로 효과적으로 변환할 수 있다. 히트 실드(10)는 랩핑가능한 벽(13)을 가지는데, 이 랩핑가능한 벽은 최외측 레이어(14), 최내측 레이어(16), 및 최외측 레이어(14)와 최내측 레이어(16) 사이에 함께 접촉하여 직접 끼워져 있는 중간매개 레이어(18)를 포함한다. 따라서, 최외측 레이어(14)는 외부 환경(E)에 직접 노출되고, 최내측 레이어(16)는 배기 시스템(12)에 직접 노출되고, 중간매개 레이어(18)는 최외측 레이어(14)와 최내측 레이어(16) 사이에 끼워져 있어서, 외부 환경(E)이나 배기 시스템(12)과 직접 접촉하지 않는다.
최외측 레이어(14)는 불침투성이면서 중실인 반사성 레이어로서 제공되므로, 최외측 레이어(14)로부터 반경방향 안쪽으로의 배기 가스의 복사열을 모두 반사하는 역할을 하고, 이로써 외부 대류와 같은 외부 환경 효과가 배기 가스의 온도 경사를 줄이는 것을 방지하기 위해서 배기 시스템(12) 내부에서 발생된 열이 새어 나가는 것을 방지한다. 게다가, 최외측 레이어(14)가 불침투성인 상태에서, 최외측 레이어(14)는 외측 환경(E)의 유체가 히트 실드(10)를 관통하는 것을 방지하고, 이로써 그 유체가 배기 시스템(12)에 도달하는 것과 배기 가스의 온도를 낮추는 것을 방지한다. 제한없는 예로써, 최외측 레이어(14)는 알루미늄 호일이나 다른 적합한 랩핑가능한 금속 시트와 같은 반사성 호일로 된 시트로 제공될 수 있다.
최내측 레이어(16)는 편성(knitting), 직조(weaving), 편조(braiding)와 같은 것을 이용하여 인터레이스된 고온용 실로 형성된 직물로서 제공되고, 또는, 예컨대 현무암 섬유, 실리카 섬유 또는 다른 고온용 섬유와 같은 인터트와인된(intertwined; 실이 말리거나 꼬인 상태를 말하고, 이는 명세서 전체로 동일함) 고온용 섬유를 가지고 있는 부직포 재료로서 제공되므로, 지속적인 섭씨 650도(℃) 또는 간헐적인 약 750℃와 같은 높은 고온을 견딜 수 있다. 제한없는 예로써, 내측 레이어(16)는 편성 외측 레이어(20), 편성 내측 레이어(22) 및 편성 중간 레이어(24)를 포함하되 트리 레이어 편직물(tri-layer knit fabric)로도 지칭되는 일체형의 3개의 편성 레이어를 가지고 있는 것으로 구성될 수 있다. 중간 레이어(middle layer)(24)는 외측 레이어(20)와 내측 레이어(22) 사이에 접하여 끼워져 있다. 3개의 레이어(20, 22, 24)는 단일의 편성 작업으로 동시에 구성되고, 이로써 예를 들자면 작업의 횟수, 시간, 편성기(knitting machine) 및 바닥 공간을 최소화하는 것을 포함하는 경제적인 이점을 제공한다. 외측 레이어(20)는 자립형(self-sustaining; 스스로 지탱하고 있거나 유지되고 있는 상태 등을 의미하며, 이는 명세서 전체로 동일함)) 편성 레이어를 제공하도록 상호간에 루프형성된 편성 스티치(interlooped knit stitches)를 이용하여 서로 편성된 실들을 가지므로 외측 레이어(20)는 그 자체만 남겨진 경우라도 풀리지 않을 것이고, 내측 레이어(22)는 자립형 편성 레이어를 제공하도록 상호간에 루프형성된 편성 스티치를 이용하여 서로 편성된 실들을 가지므로 내측 레이어(22)는 그 자체만 남겨진 경우라도 풀리지 않을 것이고, 중간 레이어(24)는 외측 레이어(20)의 실들 중 적어도 일부를 중심으로 그리고 내측 레이어(22)의 실들 중 적어도 일부를 중심으로 루프형성된 편성 스티치를 이용하여 편성된 실들을 가지지만, 중간 레이어(24)는 그 자체 사이에 루프형성된 편성 스티치를 가지지 않는다. 따라서, 내측 레이어(16)는 그 전체 영역에 걸쳐 실질적으로 균일하게 함께 편성 스티치된 3개의 레이어들(30, 22, 24)을 가지는 일체형의 편성 구조를 제공하므로, 내측 레이어(16)의 3개의 레이어들(20, 22, 24)은 불가분한 형태로 서로 고정된다. 따라서, 편성 내측 레이어(16)는 보호성이 우수한 열 장벽을 제공하는 것과는 별개로, 장력과 전단력이 작용할 때 레이어들(20, 22, 24)의 서로에 대한 분리와 움직임에 대하여 저항성이 우수하다.
제조시, 만약 편성되는 경우라면, 최내측 레이어(16)의 레이어들(20, 22, 24)은 데니어와 직경을 포함하는 적합한 크기와 타입의 멀티필라멘트 및/또는 모노필라멘트 고온용 실로 편성되고, 추가적으로 적합한 타입의 편성 스티치와 스티치의 밀도는 레이어들(20, 22, 24)을 구성하는데 사용될 수 있다. 따라서, 원하는 기능적 특성(예컨대 모노필라멘트, 멀티필라멘트, 데니어, 직경, 색깔, 텍스처, 온도 특성, 내마모성, 물리적 특성)에 따라, 동일하거나 상이한 타입의 실은 각각의 레이어들(20, 22, 24)을 구성하는데 사용될 수 있고, 동일하거나 상이한 타입의 편성 스티치와 스티치 밀도는 원하는 바와 같이 외측 레이어(20)와 내측 레이어(22)를 구성하는데 사용될 수 있다. 따라서, 의도된 적용처에 따라, 최내측 레이어(16)는 원하는 온도 특성을 가장 잘 만족하도록 맞춤제작될 수 있다.

최내측 레이어(16)의 중간 레이어(24)는 외측 레이어(20) 및 내측 레이어(22)와 달리 자립형 레이어로서 구성되지 않는다. 따라서, 외측 레이어(20)와 내측 레이어(22)가 중간 레이어(24)로부터 분리되어 있는 경우라면, 중간 레이어(24)는 자립형 편성 구성으로 남아있지 않을 것이므로, 풀리기 쉬울 수 있다. 이는 중간 레이어(24)의 실들이 턱 스티치를 이용하여 외측 레이어(20)와 내측 레이어(22)의 선택된 실들을 중심으로 루프형성되어서 외측 레이어(20)와 내측 레이어(22)의 실없이도 중간 레이어(24)가 풀린상태가 될 것이기 때문이다. 외측 레이어(20) 및 내측 레이어(22)와 관련하여, 중간 레이어(24)를 형성하는데 사용되는 실은 배기 적용처의 요건에 따라 임의의 타입(모노필라멘트/멀티필라멘트), 크기(데니어/직경) 및 고온용 재료의 원하는 실 중에서 선택될 수 있다. 따라서, 제한없는 예로써, 중간 레이어(24)는 현무암 실, 실리카 실, 세라믹 실, 스테인리스 스틸 실 및 복합사로 된 멀티필라멘트로부터 형성될 수 있고, 여기서 복합사의 모든 구성요소들은 내고온성 재료이다. 일반적으로, 외측 레이어(20)와 내측 레이어(22)? 함께 부착하는 것과는 별개로, 중간 레이어(24)는 외측 레이어(20)와 내측 레이어(22) 사이에 중간매개 에어 포켓을 형성함으로써 추가적인 절연 레이어로서 역할을 하고, 이로써 전도, 대류 및 복사에 대한 강화되고 효과적인 장벽을 제공한다.
중간매개 레이어(18)는, 제한없는 예로써 약 550℃의 고온을 지속적으로 견딜 수 있되 바느질된 것과 같이 함께 접합되거나 고정되는 유리 섬유를 가지는 유리섬유 펠트 재료(fiberglass felt material)로 된 레이어와 마찬가지로 고온용 부직포 재료로서 제공된다. 현무암, 실리카, 세라믹, 금속 또는 이와 유사한 것을 포함하는 다른 타입의 고온용 섬유가 부직포 중간매개 레이어(18)로 된 구성에서 사용될 수 있다는 것이 고려되어 있다. 최내측 레이어(16)는 상술된 바와 같이 지속적으로 650℃에 이르는 그리고 간헐적으로 750℃에 이르는 것과 같은 높은 고온을 견딜 수 있고 중간매개 레이어(18)는 배기 시스템에 대한 직접 노출로부터 최내측 레이어(16)에 의해 차폐되는 상황에서, 중간매개 레이어(18)는 최내측 레이어(16)에 비해 약간 낮은 온도 등급 및 감소된 열용량을 가지는 재료로 형성될 수 있다. 이는 중간매개 레이어(18)가 인터트와인된 섬유로 형성된 부직포 재료인 상황에서 열이 빠져나가지 못하게 하기 위해서 공기를 가두어서 우수한 절연 소스를 제공하는 역할을 하도록 그 내부에 형성되는 것을 말한다. 중간매개 레이어(18)의 두께는 의도된 적용처에서 요구되는 절연 "R" 값에 다다르도록 원하는 바와 같이 조정될 수 있다.
따라서, 히트 실드(10)는, 서로 함께 고정되는 경우 히트 실드(10)가 의도된 바와 같이 기능하게 하는 시너지를 가지는, 적어도 3개의 상이하면서도 별개의 레이어들(14, 16, 18)로 이루어진다. 각각의 최외측 레이어(14), 최내측 레이어(16) 및 중간매개 레이어(18)는 각각의 레이어가 설명된 바와 같이 의도된 대로 기능하게 하기 위해서 서로 보호한다. 히트 실드(10)의 별개의 레이어들(14, 16, 18)은 제한없는 예로써 고온 접착제, 봉합 및 기계적 패스너를 포함하는 다양한 메커니즘을 이용하여 서로에 대해 고정될 수 있다. 더욱이, 히트 실드(10)는, 예컨대 다이 커팅과 같은 것을 이용하여 원하는 바와 같은 크기와 형상을 가질 수 있다. 벽(13)이 랩핑가능한 상황에서는 벽(13)이 길이방향 축(23)과 대체로 평행하게 뻗어있는 마주하는 에지들(19, 21)을 가진다는 것을 알 수 있을 것이어서, 마주하는 에지들은 축(23)을 중심으로 랩핑되고 서로 접하게 되거나 서로 중첩되고, 여기서 제한없는 예로써 금속 호스 클램프나 이와 유사한 것과 같은 적합한 패스너(25)는 히트 실드(10)의 벽(13)을, 배기 시스템(12)을 중심으로 원주방향으로 랩핑되는 구성으로 고정하는데 이용될 수 있다.
본 발명의 다수의 수정과 변형은 위 교시의 관점에서 가능성이 있다. 따라서, 본 발명이 특별히 기술된 바와 달리 실시될 수 있다는 것과, 본 발명의 범위가 궁극적으로 허용되는 청구범위에 의해 정의된다는 것은 알 수 있다.

Claims (15)

  1. 멀티레이어형 랩핑가능한 벽을 가지는 보호용 히트 실드로서,
    반사성 최외측 레이어;
    인터레이스된 고온용 실로 된 최내측 레이어; 및
    상기 최외측 레이어와 최내측 레이어 사이에 끼워져 있는 부직포 재료로 된 중간매개 레이어;
    를 구비하는 것을 특징으로 하는 보호용 히트 실드.
  2. 제 1 항에 있어서,
    상기 최외측 레이어는 불침투성인 것을 특징으로 하는 보호용 히트 실드.
  3. 제 2 항에 있어서,
    상기 최외측 레이어는 금속인 것을 특징으로 하는 보호용 히트 실드.
  4. 제 3 항에 있어서,
    상기 최외측 레이어는 알루미늄 호일인 것을 특징으로 하는 보호용 히트 실드.
  5. 제 1 항에 있어서,
    상기 최내측 레이어는 직조된 것을 특징으로 하는 보호용 히트 실드.
  6. 제 1 항에 있어서,
    상기 최내측 레이어는 편조된 것을 특징으로 하는 보호용 히트 실드.
  7. 제 1 항에 있어서,
    상기 최내측 레이어는 편성된 것을 특징으로 하는 보호용 히트 실드.
  8. 제 7 항에 있어서,
    상기 편성 최내측 레이어는 편성 중간 레이어를 이용하여 서로에 대해 고정되는 편성 내측 레이어와 편성 외측 레이어를 가지는 것을 특징으로 하는 보호용 히트 실드.
  9. 제 1 항에 있어서,
    상기 인터레이스된 고온용 실은 현무암, 실리카, 세라믹 및 스테인리스 스틸로 이루어진 그룹 중에서 선택되는 것을 특징으로 하는 보호용 히트 실드.
  10. 제 1 항에 있어서,
    상기 중간매개 레이어는 고온용 섬유로 형성되는 것을 특징으로 하는 보호용 히트 실드.
  11. 제 10 항에 있어서,
    상기 고온용 섬유는 유리섬유인 것을 특징으로 하는 보호용 히트 실드.
  12. 멀티레이어형 랩핑가능한 벽을 가지는 보호용 배기 시스템 히트 실드로서,
    불침투성 금속 호일로 된 반사성 최외측 레이어;
    현무암, 실리카, 세라믹 및 스테인리스 스틸로 이루어진 그룹 중에서 선택된 인터레이스된 고온용 실로 된 최내측 레이어; 및
    상기 최외측 레이어와 최내측 레이어 사이에 끼워져 있는 고온용 부직포 재료로 된 중간매개 레이어;
    를 구비하는 것을 특징으로 하는 보호용 배기 시스템 히트 실드.
  13. 제 12 항에 있어서,
    상기 고온용 부직포 재료는 유리섬유인 것을 특징으로 하는 보호용 배기 시스템 히트 실드.
  14. 제 12 항에 있어서,
    상기 최내측 레이어의 상기 인터레이스된 고온용 실은 편성된 것을 특징으로 하는 보호용 배기 시스템 히트 실드.
  15. 제 14 항에 있어서,
    상기 최내측 레이어는 내측 편성 레이어 위에 놓여 있는 외측 편성 레이어를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 보호용 배기 시스템 히트 실드.
