Claims (30)
- 공정용기 내에서 약 5 중량% 내지 약 60 중량%의 혼합 플라스틱을 포함하는 고형 폐기물 혼합물을 약 110 ℃ 이하의 온도로 가열하여 고형 폐기물 혼합물을 건조된 고형 폐기물 혼합물 및 기화된 화합물로 분리시키는 단계;
기화된 화합물을 공정용기로부터 제거하는 단계;
고형 폐기물 혼합물을 적어도 160 ℃ 및 대기압 미만에서 가열 및 혼합하여 용융된 혼합 플라스틱을 포함하는 가열된 고형 폐기물 혼합물을 형성하는 단계;
가열된 고형 폐기물 혼합물을 약 200 ℃ 미만에서 압출하여 압출된 고형 폐기물 혼합물을 제조하는 단계; 및
압출된 고형 폐기물 혼합물을 약 65 ℃ 미만으로 냉각시켜 약 8,000 BTU/lb. 내지 약 14,000 BTU/lb. 범위의 에너지 함량, 약 30 lb./ft3 내지 약 80 lb./ft3 범위의 밀도, 및 약 1 중량% 미만의 물 함량을 갖는 고형 연료 조성물을 형성하는 단계

- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 혼합 플라스틱은 폴리에스테르, 폴리에틸렌 테레프탈레이트, 폴리에틸렌, 폴리비닐 클로라이드, 폴리비닐리덴 클로라이드, 폴리프로필렌, 폴리스티렌, 폴리아미드, 아크릴로니트릴 부타디엔 스티렌, 폴리에틸렌/아크릴로니트릴 부타디엔 스티렌, 폴리카보네이트, 폴리카보네이트/아크릴로니트릴 부타디엔 스티렌, 폴리우레탄, 말레이미드/비스말레이미드, 멜라민 포름알데히드, 페놀 포름알데히드, 폴리에폭시드, 폴리에테르에테르케톤, 폴리에테르이미드, 폴리이미드, 폴리락트산, 폴리메틸 메타크릴레이트, 폴리테트라플루오로에틸렌 및 우레아-포름알데히드로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 하나 이상의 플라스틱을 포함하는 방법.
- 제6항에 있어서, 상기 혼합 플라스틱은 폴리비닐 클로라이드, 폴리비닐리덴 클로라이드 및 이들의 조합을 포함하고, 건조된 고형 폐기물은 적어도 약 190 ℃로 가열되는 것인 방법.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 고형 폐기물 혼합물은 약 5 중량% 내지 약 35 중량%의 혼합 플라스틱을 포함하는 방법.
- 제1항에 있어서, 물질이:
약 40 중량% 내지 약 80 중량%의 탄소;
약 5 중량% 내지 약 20 중량%의 수소;
약 5 중량% 내지 약 20 중량%의 산소;
약 2 중량% 미만의 황; 및
약 2 중량% 미만의 염소
를 포함하는 방법. - 제1항에 있어서, 상기 공정용기는 적어도 약 190 ℃의 벽 온도로 유지되는 하나 이상의 가열된 벽, 공정용기의 내부 용적 내에 있고 공정용기에 작동 가능하게 연결된 혼합기, 공정용기 내의 제1 개구를 통과하는 압출 요소, 및 공정용기 내의 제2 개구를 통과하는 진공 포트를 포함하고;
상기 공정용기는 진공 포트를 통해 진공 펌프를 포함하는 진공 시스템에 부착되는 것인 방법. - 제10항에 있어서, 상기 진공 시스템은 상부 포트, 상부 포트 아래의 하부 포트, 하부 포트 아래의 응축물 베이신 및 응축물 베이신 내의 드레인을 포함하는 응축기를 포함하며, 응축기는 응축기의 상부 포트를 통해 공정용기의 진공 포트에 작동 가능하게 연결되고, 응축기는 응축기의 하부 포트를 통해 진공 펌프에 작동 가능하게 연결되는 것인 방법.
- 제11항에 있어서, 상기 진공 펌프는 진공 포트를 통해 수증기, 휘발성 유기 화합물, 염소화 유기 화합물, 염소 가스 및 이들의 임의의 조합을 포함하는 기화된 화합물을 제거하는 방법.
- 제1항에 있어서, 고형 폐기물 혼합물을 공정용기에 도입하기 전에 약 2 인치의 최대 치수 또는 최대 직경을 갖는 조각으로 고형 폐기물 혼합물을 파쇄하는 것을 더 포함하는 방법.
- 고형 폐기물 혼합물을 불연성 고형 폐기물에 대해 분석하고, 존재한다면, 불연성 고형 폐기물을 제거하는 단계;
고형 폐기물 혼합물을 혼합 플라스틱 함량에 대해 분석하고, 필요하다면, 고형 폐기물 혼합물 내의 혼합 플라스틱의 양을 약 5 중량% 내지 약 60 중량%로 조정하는 단계;
고형 폐기물 혼합물을 파쇄하여 고형 폐기물 혼합물 내의 다른 개별 조각보다 작거나 같은 입자 크기로 감소시키는 단계;
상기 고형 폐기물 혼합물을 약 190 ℃ 내지 약 260 ℃의 벽 온도로 유지되는 하나 이상의 가열된 벽, 공정용기에 작동 가능하게 연결된 혼합기, 공정용기 내의 제1 개구를 통과하는 압출 요소, 및 공정용기 내의 제2 개구를 통과하는 진공 포트를 포함하는 공정용기에 도입하는 단계;
고형 폐기물 혼합물을 약 90 ℃ 내지 약 110 ℃의 온도로 가열하여 수증기, 휘발성 유기 화합물, 염소화 유기 화합물, 염소 가스 및 임의의 그들의 조합을 포함하는 기화된 화합물 및 건조된 고형 폐기물 혼합물로 고형 폐기물 혼합물을 분리하는 단계;
진공 포트에 부착된 진공 시스템을 사용하여 공정용기 내의 압력을 약 50 torr 미만으로 감입시킴으로써 공정용기로부터 기화된 화합물을 제거하는 단계;
건조된 고형 폐기물 혼합물을 약 190 ℃ 내지 약 260 ℃ 및 약 50 torr 미만에서 가열 및 혼합하여 용융된 혼합 플라스틱을 포함하는 가열된 고형 폐기물 혼합물을 형성시키는 단계;
압출 출구를 사용하여 약 200 ℃ 미만의 온도에서 가열된 고형 폐기물 혼합물을 공정용기로부터 압출하여 압출된 고형 폐기물 혼합물을 제조하는 단계; 및
압출된 고형 폐기물 혼합물을 약 65 ℃ 미만으로 냉각시켜 약 8,000 BTU/lb. 내지 약 14,000 BTU/lb. 범위의 에너지 함량, 약 30 lb./ft3 내지 약 80 lb./ft3의 밀도 범위, 및 약 1 중량% 미만의 물 함량을 가지는 고형 연료 조성물을 제조하는 단계
를 포함하는 합성가스의 형성 없이 고형 폐기물 혼합물로부터 고형 연료 조성물을 제조하는 방법. - 제14항에 있어서, 고형 폐기물 혼합물은 도시 고형 폐기물 및 농업 폐기물을 포함하는 방법.
- 제14항에 있어서, 상기 혼합 플라스틱은 폴리에스테르, 폴리에틸렌 테레프탈레이트, 폴리에틸렌, 폴리비닐 클로라이드, 폴리비닐리덴 클로라이드, 폴리프로필렌, 폴리스티렌, 폴리아미드, 아크릴로니트릴 부타디엔 스티렌, 폴리에틸렌/아크릴로니트릴 부타디엔 스티렌, 폴리카보네이트, 폴리카보네이트/아크릴로니트릴 부타디엔 스티렌, 폴리우레탄, 말레이미드/비스말레이미드, 멜라민 포름알데히드, 페놀 포름알데히드, 폴리에폭시드, 폴리에테르에테르케톤, 폴리에테르이미드, 폴리이미드, 폴리락트산, 폴리메틸 메타크릴레이트, 폴리테트라플루오로에틸렌 및 우레아-포름알데히드로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 하나 이상의 플라스틱을 포함하는 방법.
- 제14항에 있어서, 상기 고형 폐기물 혼합물이 벽 온도보다 약 30 ℃ 미만의 온도에 도달할 때까지 고형 폐기물 혼합물이 하나 이상의 가열된 벽으로부터의 열 전달에 의해 가열되는 방법.
- 제14항에 있어서, 고형 폐기물 혼합물을 공정용기에 도입하기 전에 고형 폐기물 혼합물을 최대 치수 또는 최대 직경이 약 2 인치인 조각으로 파쇄하는 것을 더 포함하는 방법.
- 제14항에 있어서, 공정용기로부터 제거된 기화된 화합물을 응축하여 휘발성 유기 화합물, 염소화 유기 화합물, 염소 가스 및 이들의 임의의 조합으로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 하나 이상의 화합물을 포함하는 폐수를 제조하는 것을 더 포함하는 방법.
- 제19항에 있어서, 폐수로부터 하나 이상의 화합물을 제거하여 처리된 폐수를 제조하는 것을 더 포함하는 방법.
- 제19항에 있어서, 상기 벽 온도는 약 280 ℃로 유지되고, 고형 폐기물 혼합물은 약 250 ℃로 가열되어 가열된 고형 폐기물 혼합물 내에 혼합 플라스틱을 연화 및 분산시키는 방법.
- 제14항에 있어서, 하나 이상의 가열된 벽의 벽 온도를 모니터링하고, 모니터링된 벽 온도를 사용하여 하나 이상의 가열된 벽에 작동 가능하게 연결된 히터의 작동을 변조하여 하나 이상의 가열된 벽을 원하는 벽 온도로 자동으로 유지시키는 단계를 더 포함하는 방법.
- 제14항에 있어서, 공정용기 내의 헤드스페이스 볼륨 내의 헤드스페이스 압력을 모니터링하고, 모니터링된 헤드스페이스 압력을 사용하여 진공 시스템의 작동을 변조하여 상기 공정용기 내에서 감압을 자동으로 유지시키는 단계를 더 포함하는 방법.
- 제14항에 있어서, 공정용기로부터 제거된 기화된 화합물 내의 수분 함량을 모니터링하는 단계를 더 포함하고, 상기 수분 함량의 초기 증가는 고형 폐기물 혼합물이 수증기를 방출하기에 충분히 가열되었다는 것을 나타내고, 안정한 최소 수분 수준으로의 후속 감소는 고형 폐기물 혼합물이 약 1 중량% 미만의 물을 포함하는 것을 나타내는 것인 방법.
- 제14항에 있어서, 공정용기 내에서 고형 폐기물 혼합물 내의 혼합물 온도를 모니터링하는 단계를 더 포함하고, 미리 결정된 온도와 동일한 모니터링된 혼합물 온도는 고형 폐기물 혼합물이 공정용기로부터 압출될 준비가 되었음을 나타내는 것인 방법.
- 제14항에 있어서, 공정용기 내에서 고형 폐기물 혼합물의 중량을 모니터링하는 단계를 더 포함하고, 모니터링된 중량이 최소 중량으로 감소하면 기화된 화합물이 고형 폐기물 혼합물로부터 완전히 제거되는 것을 나타내는 것인 방법.
- 제14항에 있어서, 상기 고형 폐기물 혼합물을 약 0.5 시간 내지 약 2 시간의 범위의 미리 결정된 기간 동안 가열 및 혼합하는 방법.
- 제14항에 있어서, 냉각 중에 압출된 혼합물을 조각으로 절단하는 단계를 더 포함하는 방법.
- 제14항에 있어서, 물질이:
약 40 중량% 내지 약 80 중량%의 탄소;
약 5 중량% 내지 약 20 중량%의 수소;
약 5 중량% 내지 약 20 중량%의 산소;
약 2 중량% 미만의 황; 및
약 2 중량% 미만의 염소
를 포함하는 방법. - 제1항의 방법에 따라 형성된 고형 연료 조성물.
