The present invention relates to a device making it possible to simultaneously mix different liquid or pasty substances and filter the composition containing these substances.

When preparing various compositions, for example paints, the mixing of different liquid or pasty substances is carried out in a tank fitted with an agitator. A composition is thus obtained which consists of a homogeneous mixture of these substances.

This composition must then be filtered before packaging or use, in order to remove large particles, foreign substances and other impurities. This last filtration operation of compositions which are generally viscous often requires a fairly long time, hence the cost of material and labor.

The object of the present invention is to remedy this drawback. It has in particular for object a device making it possible to carry out = simultaneously the two operations of mixing and filtration which, until now, were separated.

The device of the present invention essentially comprises a container provided with a vertical, axial rotary shaft possibly comprising an agitator as well as a basket of which at least the side walls are provided with openings and which is located co-axially in the recipient.

The basket can be placed in the container without being driven in a rotational movement. However, according to another variant, the basket can be secured to the vertical shaft, which causes this basket to rotate in the container.

It can therefore be seen that the container with a rotary vertical axis can be designed: - a) with an agitator and a basket both in rotational movement,, b) with an agitator alone in rotation, while the basket remains stationary, c) either with basket rotating only, without agitator.

Other characteristics and particularities of the invention will emerge from the description given below of a mode of execution with reference to the appended figure.

This figure shows schematically, in section, a mixing and filtration device according to the invention, in the case of a vertical axis with agitator and a fixed basket.

The device comprises a vertical container 1, as generally used for mixing liquid and / or pasty substances.

The container is provided with a vertical axis 2 to which a stirrer 3 is adapted. This stirrer can be any stirrer generally used in the mixing operations mentioned above. The container 1 also contains a vertical basket, co-axial 4, the side walls of which are provided with perforations. The bottom of this basket can also be provided with perforations. The side walls, and possibly the bottom, can consist of a wire mesh. Their role is to act as a filter element for the mixture during production.

For the preparation of this mixture, the various constituents are introduced into the container 1. Under the effect of the agitation caused by the rotary axis 2 with agitator 3, these constituents are brought into intimate contact by stirring. The dimensions of the container as well as the characteristics of the stirring and stirring system are determined so that the constituents being mixed also undergo an upward movement from the lower part of the container to the upper part, while being deflected towards the container walls. Then, these currents descend, then undergo again the same movement indicated by the arrows A. Thanks to this vortex effect, the constituents being mixed must penetrate inside the basket 4 and pass from the inside towards the outside of this basket, crossing the openings in the side walls and possibly the bottom of the basket.

Thanks to this device, particles of foreign substances, those of the components of the mixture which are not sufficiently disaggregated, agglomerates and other coarse impurities are retained in * · the basket, the walls and possibly the bottom of which act as sieve or filter.

A person skilled in the art can easily determine the dimensions of the basket, the number and the dimensions of the openings in the walls and the bottom, as a function not only of the dimensions of the container and of the efficiency of the agitator, but also of the substances to be mix.

Thanks to this device, mixing and filtration operations are carried out quickly and simultaneously, resulting in savings in investment and manpower. This device can be used for the preparation of various mixtures of liquid and / or pasty substances, e.g. in the industries producing paints, lubricating oils, and the like, which require a filtration operation before packaging or the use of the final compositions.

Claims (4)

1. Device for simultaneously mixing liquid or pasty substances and filtering the composition containing these substances, characterized in that it essentially comprises a container provided with a vertical, axial, rotary shaft, optionally comprising an agitator, thus that a basket at least the side walls of which are provided with openings and which is located co-axially in the container. 2. Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the basket is not driven in a rotational movement. 3. Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the basket is integral with the vertical shaft. 4. Device according to any one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the bottom of the basket is provided with openings. 1>
