r i i Procédé de traitement des obi ets métalliaues.r i i Process for the treatment of metal objects.
i - j i | La présente invention se rapporte à un procédé de traitement | des objets métalliques. Il est applicable de façon particu- ; librement intéressante aux tôles en acier pour carrosserie j | . d'automobile, notamment pour les décaper.i - j i | The present invention relates to a treatment method | metallic objects. It is particularly applicable; freely interesting to steel sheets for bodywork j | . automotive, especially to strip them.
J It is well known that in many treatments of metallic materials and especially of steel sheets, we dive! these materials in an aqueous solution of a suitable product, for example a mineral or organic acid, such as formic acid I, in order to obtain on the surface of said material one or the other property considered to be advantageous. The effectiveness of the treatment obviously depends on the chemical nature of the bodies present, the temperature, their concentrations, the duration of the operation, etc.

It is common, especially when the solution in question is at relatively high temperature, that a vapor phase is formed in equilibrium with the liquid phase which is most often applied to eliminate as it forms, being considered unusable.
Telling the opposite of these ideas, the inventor discovered that, quite unexpectedly, it was possible, in the case of formic acid, thanks to the existence of an azeotropic point for which the value of the boiling temperature is only slightly higher than the boiling temperatures of the pure constituents, to make use of a stripper in the vapor state.
It was found that the vapor-liquid equilibrium diagram of water and formic acid was such that on the side of the high water contents of the water-formic acid mixture, there was a certain pickling power of the vapor phase, can already see sensitive at a concentration of 5 ppm I> "of formic acid, to which corresponds a mixture vapor temperature practically equal to 100 ° C.
| Partant de cette constatation, l'inventeur a imaginé de mettre ; en contact un courant de vapeur d'eau avec de l'acide formique | * et de projeter sur un objet métallique à décaper, un jet de | gaz constitué de, ou contenant en majeure partie, la phase ! vapeur "eau - acide formique" ainsi obtenue.| Starting from this observation, the inventor imagined to put; in contact with a stream of water vapor with formic acid | * and to project onto a metallic object to be stripped, a jet of | gas consisting of, or containing for the most part, the phase! "water - formic acid" vapor thus obtained.
The method of the invention can be easily implemented using a pressurized steam generator and a tank containing formic acid supplying the desired vapor phase to an appropriate spraying device; nozzle - nozzle - gun___ \ \
The applications of this process appear to be quite important, | j one can quote for example: \ '- 3 - - on a line continuously delivering an oxidized sheet, one can pickle off one side or both sides at will. The process is very economical, since steam and formic acid have a low cost price; * - on a sheet having practically no oxide, such a projection provides temporary protection of the sheet, since formic acid only forms non-hygroscopic compounds. Such protection therefore no longer requires oiling, sheets, which is particularly advantageous for the barrel-keepers; - on an oxidized sheet on both sides and intended to be galvanized on only one side: - we first treat the side which must be galvanized, - we then treat the other side by means of the steam mixture (water - formic acid ) or by any other means, - on "a sheet which is little or not oxidized and which has to be galvanized on one side only: - the side which is not to be galvanized is voluntarily oxidized, - the other side is galvanized and then the first side as indicated above, - on metal parts of any shape, especially hollow parts: - we can first of all, if necessary, de-oil them by an appropriate thermal or chemical process, - then treat the parts by projection of the steam "water - formic acid". This temporarily protects said parts without any interfering agent. The process is remarkably inexpensive.
