Description

Properties of seaweed and flora extracts and their impact on a new generation of tights.

This invention relates to the properties of tights that allow the use of substances contained in algae and iris extracts which, during normal use, are released upon contact with the skin.

These stockings and tights offer a soothing, decongesting, moisturizing, and, above all, anti-aging cosmetic benefit, properties obtained from the substances contained in algae and iris extracts. They also benefit from the synergistic effectiveness of these substances, alone or in combination with other ingredients, and from the properties of those used in their manufacturing process.

Algae belong to the group of chlorophyllous thallophytes, that is to say, the large family of cryptogams or non-flowering plants, generally classified according to color: green algae (Chlorophyceae), brown algae (Phaeophyceae), red algae

15 rhodophytes), and blue (cyanobacteriums).

Rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, and capable of binding and promoting the elimination of pollutants, they stimulate metabolism thanks to their iodine content. They contribute to improving overall physical appearance.

Seaweed is used in many forms in industry and agriculture. Furthermore, it plays a nutritional role in the treatment of certain conditions caused by dietary deficiencies and/or metabolic imbalances. Given their high iodine content, some brown algae (kelp and bladderwrack) were used as early as the 17th century to treat goiter and Graves' disease.

25 These various physiological effects explain the prescription of algae in diseases and syndromes such as:

- iodine metabolism disorders,

- organic deficiencies,

- vitamin or trace element deficiency,

- rheumatic, arteriosclerotic conditions,

The use of algae in cosmetics has indeed increased over time. The dermatological properties stem from a series of active substances, among 105 of which include: antioxidant vitamins, for example provitamins A and D and vitamin C; specific moisturizing and mucilaginous biopolymers; various biologically active secondary metabolic compounds.

Cosmetic products currently in use containing algae include: cleansing milk, toner, moisturizer, deodorant, hand cream, face and body cream, intimate wash, shampoo; as well as specific bath products, preparations useful for combating cellulite, stretch marks, acne, and for improving skin appearance. Anti-cellulite treatment in thalassotherapy uses seawater rich in typical trace elements in combination with different types of marine algae. It can be carried out with specific cosmetic preparations and is also developed through the topical application of algae-based preparations, either as is or in the form of extracts, such as muds, masks, and other extemporaneous local applications.

The disadvantage of currently used cosmetic formulations is related to the 120 application time and contact with the skin surface, which is necessarily dependent on limited periods during the day.

Stockings and tights are an ideal way to prolong the cosmetic effects of our algae and iris-based preparations because they are made of

Indeed, substances from different types of algae and irides are used to be absorbed and deposited on the surface and inside the textile fiber of the stocking or tights.

130 different species of algae allow for particularly interesting applications. For example:

Brown algae: Fucus, Pelvetia, Ascophyllum, Himanthalia, Laminaria, Sargassum species.

Red algae: Chondrus, Mastocarpus or Girgatina, Palmaria, Porphyra, 135 Ceramium and Gracilaria.

Green algae: Ulva, Enteromorpha and Codium.

The following varieties of algae are also mentioned: Ascophyllum nodosum, Pelvetia canaliculata, Enteromorpha, Palmaria palmata, Sargassum muticum, Ceramium rubrum, Gracilaria verrucosa, Ulva lactuca, Laminaria digitata, Codium. 140 All algae have significant anti-radical and anti-aging behavior. Ulva lactuca is preferred because it contains the same amounts of vitamin A as cabbage and vitamin C as oranges, and also a wide range of the 145 B vitamins. It has a high content of minerals and trace elements.

The seaweed extracts used in this invention are prepared by conventional liquid-phase extraction processes, including the use of supercritical fluids.

For extraction using an aqueous method, the pH is controlled by specific buffer solutions. Extraction is also performed using polar solvents, which are used either alone or in combination with an aqueous medium. The final manufacturing steps consist of dehydration of the extract, either by vacuum concentration, reverse osmosis, or by concentration and purification using chromatography or ultrafiltration. In certain cases, some substances isolated from seaweed extracts are obtained by chemical synthesis, for example, fucoli, polifucoli, difloretoli, polifloretoli, bifualoli, polifualoli, and floretoli, which possess remarkable free radical scavenging activity. Therefore, in this description, the term "seaweed extract" is generally used to describe substances isolated from these extracts or obtained by chemical synthesis.

The seaweed extracts used to give stockings and tights a cosmetic effect are combined with extracts from irides.

Substances contained in seaweed extracts are associated with one or more of 200 antioxidants. Antioxidants suitable for our purpose include, but are not limited to, those found in the seeds, leaves, flowers, and peels of fruits and vegetables, and may be extracted from natural sources or synthetically produced equivalents.

Representative antioxidants include certain amino acids (e.g., histidine and valine), flavonoids (e.g., armadendrin, morin, quercitrin, esperetin, naringenin, kaempferol, apigenin, luteolin, fosetin, fustin, rutin, miricetin), anthocyanins (e.g., pelargonidin, cyanidin, delfinidin), catechins (e.g., catechin, epicatechin, gallocatechin, proanthocyanosides), carotenoids and retinoids (carotene isomers, licopene, xanthine, retinol, cataxanthin), tocopherols (e.g., alpha-beta- and gamma-tocopherol), tannins (e.g., gallic acid, propyl gallate and gallic esters, tannic acid), and phospholipids (e.g., egg lecithin and...) soy), L-ascorbic acid and esters, alpha-hydroxy acids (e.g., lactic acid, citric acid, L-tartaric acid), Monascus red polychetides, peanut and rice substances (e.g., cardanol, cardol, anacardic acid, oryzanol, 215 cashew oil), thiodipropionic acid and lauric ester (DLTBP), alpha-lipoic acid, nordihydroguaiaretic acid (NDGA), guaiacol, hydroxytirosol and olive oil esters (e.g., oleuropein, verbascoside), other phenols from spices and herbs (e.g., rosemary, cloves, chili pepper, cinnamon, ginger, paprika (TBHQ), citrus oils, trihydroxybutirophenol (THBP), BHT and BHA), maclurine, 220 ethoxyquin, ellagic acid, musizine, boldine, but also their correspondents

Among the particularly preferred antioxidants are gallic acid and its derivatives, ascorbic acid and its derivatives, but also flavonoids contained in plant extracts or in purified form.

225 Other types of active ingredients with adjuvant and/or synergistic function are also used in the present invention.

Although not limited to these categories, general examples include anti-wrinkle and anti-inflammatory drugs.

Examples of anti-inflammatories include licorice derivatives, 230 flavonoids, alpha-bisabolol, rosemary, azulene, asiaticoside, ruscogenin, escin, betulinic acid and its derivatives.

Examples of anti-wrinkle products include retinol, tocopherol, salicylates and their derivatives.

For the production of tights, which is the subject of the present invention, several of these processes can be used.

Anchoring with polymeric gels or resins including active ingredients (algae and synergistic agents), microcapsule deposition, impregnation, precipitation or surface absorption, for example using suitable surfactants.

240 Cationic, non-ionic, anionic, amphoteric surfactants and their combinations are also usefully employed.

Surfactants include:

non-ionic: alcohol alkoxylate and fatty acids or sorbitan, polyoxypropylene and polyoxyethylene, alkyl polyglycosides;

245 anionics: fatty acid soaps, sodium lauryl sulfate or lauryl ether sulfate, alkyl benzensulfonates, mono and/or dialchil phosphate and similar;

Amphoteric compounds: dialchilammine oxides, various types of betaines, phospholipids and natural ceramides.

250 Among surfactants, preference is given to biomimetic phospholipids (products from Mona, USA), substances of a glycero-phosphocolinic nature with a cationic charge.

Furthermore, the device of the invention is treated with substances having antiproliferative action on various species of microorganisms, for example with the 255 external alkyls of p-hydroxybenzoic acid, idantoin, paraben,

imidazolidinil urea, sodium dehydroacetate, benzyl alcohol and a range of quaternary ammonium components, in addition to inorganic or mixed substances such as iodinated and mercuric components.

Sunscreen filters can be incorporated into the device of the present invention, for example PABA derivatives, benzophenone, and cinnamatis, in quantities depending on the degree of UV protection desired.
