Abstract
The invention relates to the photoelectrochemical plants for water decomposition to hydrogen and oxygen and may be used in the power, chemical and other industries. The solar station for water decomposition to hydrogen and oxygen includes two photoelectrochemical cells installed behind each other. The first photoelectrochemical cell comprises a space for aqueous electrolyte oxidation with sun light inlet port and anode transparent for the sun light in the yellow to red spectral range, coated on the end of contact with the aqueous electrolyte with a layer of average-porous semiconductor oxide. The second cell comprises, placed in series, a transparent electrode, a layer of photovoltaic sensitizer-colorant, an adsorbent in the yellow, red and partially infrared sunlight spectral range and an counterelectrode, galvanically bound by the anode and a reduction space, separated from the oxidation space by means of an ion-exchange membrane, wherein it is placed a reductant cathode and a cathode galvanically bound by the transparent electrolyte. The reduction space is installed between the photoelectrochemical cells. The cathode forms with the anode a system of parallel electrodes. As ion-exchange membrane is used a proton-exchange membrane, installed between the anode and the cathode, the cathode and the membrane being made of transparent materials in the yellow and red sunlight spectral range, and the anode and the cathode are made of proton-permeable materials.
