Abstract

Un instrumento y método para caracterizar sistemas ópticos relacionados al ojo, incluyendo el ojo humano vivo (18) implica explorar un haz iluminante de luz (22) de una fuente de luz y una unidad detectora de luz (20) de elemento a elemento de una estructura deflectora de haz (12) de elementos (14) dispuestos lateralmente a lo largo del eje óptico (16) del ojo (18). En cada elemento sucesivo (14) el haz iluminante (22) es desviado para formar un haz interrogante (24) que es dirigido hacia el ojo (18) en un ángulo periférico que depende de la localización lateral del elemento deflector. Un haz de retorno (23) es reflejado o retrodispersado de la córnea (38) y devuelto a través del mismo elemento deflector hacia la fuente de luz y unidad detectora (20). Esto permite que los haces interrogantes sean explorados suficientemente rápido en el ojo para reducir grandemente la variación de la fijación del ojo y la mirada que acompaña otros métodos de medición de la refracción periférica o aberración del ojo natural. Además de o en vez de explorar el haz iluminante (22) sobre cada elemento (14) de la estructura (12), todos o múltiples elementos (14) de la estructura (12) pueden ser iluminados simultáneamente y los múltiples rayos interrogantes (24) así generados pueden ser bloqueados con el uso de una placa de apertura de LCD (26) Alternativamente, una placa de apertura de LCD (28) puede ser interpuesta entre un haz iluminante ancho (22) y operada para iluminar selectivamente el deflector de haz.
