Abstract
Se describe una formación autónoma de carros o vagones de balasto para descargar balasto a lo largo de una vía férrea y métodos para descargar balasto. La formación de carros incluye una pluralidad de vagones o carros de balasto y al menos un vagón o carro de control. El carro de control incluye un controlador, un sistema de navegación, y generadores eléctricos, hidráulicos o neumáticos que accionan los carros tolva. El controlador emplea el sistema de navegación para determinar la ubicación de la formación de carros con respecto a una medición de vías que indica las ubicaciones y cantidades de balasto que se descargan. La operación de descarga se lleva a cabo automáticamente, sin necesidad de la intervención de un operador, y sin riesgo de daño a las instalaciones férreas.
