Abstract

Se divulga en la presente un método para escindir una fibra óptica; el método incluye proporciona una fibra óptica (62), que es resistente a doblarse, una fibra óptica de un sólo modo que tiene una capa de revestimiento de índice disminuido que no incluye ninguna inclusión de aire; el método incluye además aplicar energía a una sección de la fibra óptica (62) entre una primera ubicación de la fibra óptica y una segunda ubicación de la fibra óptica; el método también incluye escindir por medios mecánicos la fibra óptica entre la primera y segunda ubicaciones de la fibra óptica para proporcionar extremos de fibra óptica escindidos.
