Abstract

AN IMPACT DECORTICATOR COMPRISES A ROTOR (10) WITHIN A CASING (2) HAVING GRADED RIPPLES (20) ON ITS SURFACE WHICH CO-OPERATE WITH THE ROTOR TO PROCESS PLANT MATERIALS SUCH AS LEAVES OR SEEDS. THERE ARE TWO SETS OF RIPPLES AT DIAMETRICALLY OPPOSED SIDES OF THE ROTOR AND EACH EXTENDING BETWEEN THE INLET (4) AND OUTLET (6) OF THE CASING. THE ROTOR IS REVERSIBLE IN ROTATION SO AS TO CO-OPERATE WITH ONE SET OF RIPPLES IN ONE ROTATIONAL DIRECTION AND TO CO-OPERATE WITH THE OTHER SET IN THE OTHER ROTATIONAL DIRECTION. THE USE OF TWO SUCH SETS OF RIPPLES INCREASES THE WORKING LIFE OF THE DECORTICATOR BEFORE REPLACEMENT OF THE RIPPLES IS REQUIRED.(FIG 1)
