Abstract

DISCLOSED IS A DERMAL OR TRANSDERMAL DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM IN FORM OF A PATCH CONSISTING OF A DRUG OCCLUSIVE BACKING LAYER, A DRUG RESERVOIR, AN ADHESIVE LAYER AND A REMOVABLE PROTECTIVE OVERLAYER. THE IMPROVEMENT COMPRISES A DISCRETE AND DISCONTINUOUS PATTERN OF THE ADHESIVE COVERING THE EXTERNAL SIDE OF THE DRUG RESERVOIR DIRECTED TOWARDS THE SIDE OF APPLICATION, AND WHICH PATTERN IS OPTIONALLY SURROUNDED WITH A CONTINUOUS OR DISCONTINUOUS BAND OF ADHESIVE.
