Abstract
A PLANT FOR THE CONTINUOUS HYDROLYSIS OF FATS COMPRISES A TUBE (15), DESIGNED FOR WATER DESCENDING IN COUNTERCURRENT TO ASCENDING FAT AT AROUND 5 MPA/260?C, A SPLITTING COLUMN (7) WHICH COMPRISES AT ITS SUMP (6) A FAT INLET AND A GLYCEROL WATER OUTLET AND AT ITS HEAD (10) A WATER INLET AND A FATTY ACID OUTLET, THE INLETS BEING PRECEDED BY HEATING MEANS (3, 11) AND A PRESSURE PUMP (5, 9) AND THE OUTLETS BEING FOLLOWED BY EXPANSION AND COOLING MEANS (19, 20, 22, 24), WHEREIN PACKING SECTIONS (16) WITH PACKINGS CONSISTING OF PACKING ELEMENTS WITH A FREE VOLUME OF AT LEAST 90% AND HEATING SECTIONS (17) FOR HEATING THE REACTANTS (1, 8) MOVING THROUGH THE COLUMN IN COUNTERCURRENT ARE ARRANGED SEQUENTIALLY IN THE LONGITUDINAL DIRECTION OF THE TUBE (15). BY THE USE OF THIS PLANT THE DEGREE OF HYDROLYSIS IS IMPROVED, AS WELL AS THE CONCENTRATION OF GLYCEROL BEING INCREASED AND THE RESIDENCE TIME SHORTENED. (FIG. 1)
