Abstract
LEAD IS REMOVED FROM RARE-EARTH METALS IN THE FORM OF CHLORIDES IN AQUEOUS SOLUTION BY CARRING OUT A LIQUID-LIQUID EXTRACTION OPERATION BETWEEN AN AQUEOUS PHASE CONTAINING AT LEAST ONE RARE-EARTH METAL AND THE LEAD IN THE FORM OF CHLORIDES AND AN ORGANIC PHASE CONTAINING AN EXTRACTION AGENT FORMED BY AN ALKYL MONOESTER OF AN ALKYLPHOSPHONIC ACID: AT THE MOMENT OF THE EXTRACTION OPERATION, THE AQUEOUS PHASE BROUGHT INTO CONTACT WITH THE ORGANIC PHASE HAS A CONCENTRATION IN RESPECT OF CHLORIDE IONS OF AT LEAST 2 MOLES/LITRE AND A pH OF 2 TO 4. THE RARE-EARTH METAL (S) IS/ARE THEN RECOVERED FROM THE ORGANIC PHASE.
