Abstract

THE INVENTION CONCERNS A MONOMERIC COMPOUND COMPRISING (A) A REACTIVE ARYLCYCLOBUTENE MOIETY AND (B) A MOLECULAR GROUP WHICH IS BONDED TO THE ARYL GROUP OF THE ARYLCYCLOBUTENE MOIETY. THE MOLECULAR GROUP WHICH IS BONDED TO THE ARYL MOIETY CAN COMPRISE AT LEAST ONE UNSATURATED ALKYL GROUP, I.E, A GROUP OF TWO ALIPHATIC OR ALICYCLIC CARBON ATOMS BONDED BY A DOUBLE OR A TRIPLE BOND. THE MOLECULAR GROUP CAN ALSO COMPRISE AN ORGANIC MOLECULAR GROUP OR AN INORGANIC MOLECULAR GROUP.SUITABLE ORGANIC MOLECULAR GROUPS ARE ALIPHATIC, CYCLOALIPHATIC HETEROCYCLIC AND AROMATIC MOIETIES. THE INVENTION ALSO CONCERNS POLYMERIC COMPOSITIONS PREPARED BY REACTING THE MONOMERIC COMPOUNDS OF THE INVENTION UNDER POLYMERIZATION CONDITIONS.
