Abstract

THE INVENTION RELATES TO A METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR SEPARATING BY AERATION A COMPONENT, SUCH AS CYANIDE FROM A LIQUID CONTAINING THE COMPONENT. THE METHOD COMPRISES PASSING THE LIQUID THROUGH AN ARRAY OF ACRATION COLUMNS ARRANGED IN STAGES SO THAT THE LIQUID FLOWING FROM ONE ACRATION COLUMN IN A FIRST STAGE IS DIVIDED INTO TWO OR MORE STREAMS WHICH ARE INTRODUCED INTO SEPARATE AERATION COLUMNS IN A SUCCESSIVE SECOND STAGE. THE METHOD ALSO COMPRISES PASSING AIR THROUGH THE ACRATION COLUMNS COUNTER-CURRENT TO THE LIQUID TO ENTRAIN AT LEAST A PORTION OF THE COMPONENT IN THE AIR THEREBY TO SEPARATE AT LEAST THE PORTION FROM THE LIQUID.(FIG 4)
