Abstract
BAR SOAPS CONTAINING POLYHYDROXY FATTY ACID AMIDES EXHIBIT GOOD "SMEAR" QUALITIES, DESIRABLE HARDNESS AN GOOD LATHER PROPERTIES. THE BARS ALSO HAVE A DECREASED TENDENCY TO CRACK. BARS COMPRISING SOAP AND POLYHYDROXY FATTY ACID AMIDES MATERIALS SUCH AS C12-18 N-METHYL GLUCAMIDE ARE PROVIDED. TYPICALLY THE SOAP USED IS A NON-LITHIUM FATTY ACID SOAP AND CONSTITUTES FROM 75 TO 85% BY WEIGHT OF THE BAR. THE POLYHYDROXY FATTY ACID AMIDE SHOULD BE PRESENT IN AN AMOUNT OF AT LEAST 1%.THE SOAPS USED ARE PREFERABLY DERIVED FROM FATTY ACIDS OF FROM 12 TO 18 CARBON ATOMS IN THE FORM OF SODIUM, POTASSIUM, AMMONIUM OR ALKANOL AMMONIUM SALTS. OTHER COMPONENTS MAY INCLUDE WATER AND SMALL AMOUNTS OF SODIUM CHLORIDE.
