A SMOKING ARTICLE COMPRISING A ROD (1) OF SMOKABLE MATERIAL AND A DOWNSTREAM FILTER UNIT (9) WHICH INCLUDES GRANULAR MATERIAL (7) CONTAINING ADSORBED COMPOUNDS THAT WILL GENERATE AN AEROSOL WHEN HOT GASES ARE PASSED THROUGH IT, AND MEANS (3) FOR PROVIDING A FLOW OF GASES FROM THE IGNITED TIP OF THE SMOKABLE GRANULAR MATERIAL (7) WHICH IS HOT ENOUGH TO ACTIVATE SAID GRANULAR MATERIAL(7).
