Abstract
THE PRESENT INVENTION PROVIDES A PROCESS FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF A PRODUCT ESSENTIALLY CONTAINING AMYLOSE; SAID PRODUCT BEING MANUFACTURED FROM PLANT MATERIAL, IN PARTICULAR FROM PEAS. TO THIS END, POWDER IS MIXED WITH AN ALKALINE DISINTEGRATING AGENT AND THEN A SEPARATION INTO A LIQUID PROTEIN PHASE AND A POLYSACCHARIDE-CONTAINING SOLID MATTER PHASE IS PERFORMED. THE SOLID MATTER PHASE IS THEN RESUSPENDED AND SUBJECTED TO SEVERAL SIEVING STEPS FOLLOWED BY AT LEAST ONE WASHING STEP AND A CONSEQUENT DRYING STEP. ANY ARTICLE BEING UNAFFECTED BY MOISTURE, BEING FLEXIBLE AND ABOVE ALL BIODEGRADABLE CAN BE PRODUCED BY MEANS OF CONVENTION PLASTICS TECHNOLOGIES SUCH AS FOR EXAMPLE INJECTION MOULDING FROM A POLYSACCHARIDE MATERIAL OF THAT KIND, IN PARTICULAR FROM AMYLOSE. A PARTICULAR ADVANTAGE OF THE PRESENT INVENTION IS THAT THE THERMOPLASTIC POLYSACCHARIDE MATERIAL, WHICH IS PRODUCED FROM RENEWABLE RAW MATERIALS CAN BE PROCESSED TO SHEETS WHICH THEN, IN TURN, CAN BE WORKED WITH CONVENTIONAL PLASTICS PROCESSES.
