A REFRIGERATOR INCLUDES A REFRIGERANT BRANCH PIPE (103) DIVERGED BETWEEN A CONDENSER (62) AND A REFRIGERATING THROTTLE (70) AND CONNECTED BETWEEN REFRIGERATING AND FREEZING EVAPORATORS (50 AND 52), PASSAGE SWITCHING MEANS (68) FOR SWITCHING A FLOW DIRECTION OF THE REFRIGERANT FROM THE CONDENSER (62) BETWEEN THE REFRIGERATING EVAPORATOR SIDE AND THE REFRIGERANT BRANCH PIPE SIDE, AND A CONTROL SECTION (121) FOR SWITCHING A COOLING OPERATION BETWEEN A REFRIGERATING COMPARTMENT COOLING MODE IN WHICH THE PASSAGE SWITCHING MEANS (68) IS SWITCHED TO THE REFRIGERATING EVAPORATOR SIDE AND A FREEZING COMPARTMENT COOLING MODE IN WHICH THE PASSAGE SWITCHING MEANS (68) IS SWITCHED TO THE REFRIGERANT BRANCH PIPE SIDE. THE CONTROL SECTION (121) SWITCHES THE COOLING OPERATION FROM THE REFRIGERATING COMPARTMENT COOLING MODE TO THE FREEZING COMPARTMENT COOLING MODE WHEN A TEMPERATURE IN A FREEZING COMPARTMENT (22) HAS REACHED A PREDETERMINED FREEZING COMPARTMENT UPPER LIMIT TEMPERATURE. THE CONTROL SECTION (121) SWITCHES THE COOLING OPERATION FROM THE FREEZING COMPARTMENT COOLING MODE TO THE REFRIGERATING COMPARTMENT COOLING MODE WHEN A TEMPARATURE IN A REFRIGERATING COMPARTMENT (14) HAS REACHED A PREDETERMINED REFRIGERATING COMPARTMENT UPPER LIMIT TEMPERATURE.(FIGURE 1)
