Abstract

EACH OF THE PADS (23, 24) OF THE PAIR HAS A TAPERED PORTION EXTENDING AWAY FROM THE OTHER OF THE PAIR SUCH THAT ITS WIDTH IS PROGRESSIVELY SMALLER IN THE LONGITUDINAL DIRECTION AWAY FROM THE OTHER OF THE PAIR SO AS TO REDUCE THE COMPONENT OF THE SURFACE TENSION FORCES IN THE LONGITUDINAL DIRECTION FORMED WHEN THE SOLDER IS IN THE MOLTEN STATE, THEREBY REDUCING THE LIKEHOOD OF MISALIGNMENT OR TOMBSTONING OF THE COMPONENT, AS COMPARED TO RECTANGULAR PADS (4,5) WHERE THE MAJORITY OF THE FORCE ACTS IN THE LONGITUDINAL DIRECTION.(FIG. 7)
