THE INVENTION RELATES TO AN APPARATUS FOR THE LOADING OF SHIPS (2) WITH BULK MATERIAL COMPRISING A JIB (1) MOUNTED IN RAISABLE AND LOWERABLE MANNER ON A MOVABLE GANTRY (3), PARALLEL TO THE SHIP (2) TO BE LOADED. THE JIB (1) CARRIES A CONVEYOR BELT (4) WHICH, ON ITS SIDE FACING AWAY FROM THE SHIP (2), IS LOADED BY MEANS OF THE DISCHARGING DRUM (5) OF A BELT LOOP CARRIAGE (6) BY WAY OF A FEEDING BELT (7). UNDERNEATH THE OTHER END OF THE CONVEYOR BELT (4) A DISCHARGE CHUTE CARRIAGE (8) IS PROVIDED. IN THIS APPARATUS, THE HORIZONTAL PIVOTING AXIS (9) OF THE JIB (1) IS DISPOSED ABOVE THE LONGITUDINAL AXIS OF THE FEEDING BELT (7), BELOW THE DISCHARGE DRUM (5) OF THE BELT LOOP CARRIAGE (6).(FIG. 1)
