Abstract

A TELEVISION APPARATUS CAPABLE OF PROCESSING A TELEVISION SIGNAL TO DETERMINE IF PROGRAM CONTENT RATING INFORMATION IS PROVIDED, INCLUDES A USER ENABLED/DISABLED RATING LIMIT FEATURE THAT AUTOMATICALLY UPDATES A USER'S VIEWING/RATING PROFILE ACCORDING TO A PROGRAM CONTENT RATING OF A CURRENT PROGRAM. DURING VIEWING OF A PROGRAM, THE VIEWER CAN CHOOSE TO ALLOW ALL FUTURE PROGRAMS TO BE VIEWED BASED ON THE RATING INFORMATION OF THE CURRENT PROGRAM ("VIEW"), OR TO PREVENT ALL FUTURE PROGRAMS FROM BEING VIEWED BASED ON THE RATING INFORMATION OF THE CURRENT PROGRAM ("BLOCK"). WHEN THE CHOICE IS MADE TO VIEW, ALL FUTURE PROGRAMS WITH A RATING EQUAL TO OR LESS THAN THE RATING OF THE CURRENT PROGRAM CAN BE VIEWED. WHEN THE CHOICE IS MADE TO BLOCK, ALL FUTURE PROGRAMS WITH A RATING EQUAL TO OR HIGHER THAN THE RATING OF THE CURRENT PROGRAM WILL BE BLOCKED FROM VIEWING.
