Abstract
A PROCESS FOR REMOVING VOLATILE COMPONENTS FROM A STYRENE POLYMER OBTAINED BY SOLUTION POLYMERIZATION OR BULK POLYMERIZATION IS HEREIN DISCLOSED WHICH COMPRISES THE STEPS OF ADDING TO THE MOLTEN POLYMER, A FOAMING AGENT IN AN AMOUNT OF 0.01 TO 2.0% BY WEIGHT BASED ON THE WEIGHT OF THE MOLTEN POLYMER, DISPERSING AND MIXING THE FOAMING AGENT IN AND WITH THE POLYMER, INTRODUCING THE MIXTURE INTO A VOLATILIZING DEVICE EQUIPPED WITH A PLATE FIN TYPE OR A FIN TUBE TYPE HEAT EXCHANGER, WHILE MAINTAINING THE PRESSURE AT THE INLET OF THE HEAT EXCHANGER IN THE RANGE OF 1.0 TO 10 MPA,HEATING THE MIXTURE IN THE HEAT EXCHANGER,AND THEN FLASHING IT OUTSIDE THE HEAT EXCHANGER.ACCORDING TO THE PRESENT INVENTION, THE VOLATILE COMPONENTS CAN EFFICIENTLY BE REMOVED FROM THE STYRENE POLYMER WITHOUT IMPAIRING THE QUALITY OF THE POLYMER SO AS TO SUFFICIENTLY DECREASE THE RESIDUAL VOLATILE COMPONENTS.(FIG 2)
