Abstract

A COMPOSITE FILTRATION MATERIAL (10) COMPRISES AT LEAST TWO LAYERS OF FILTRATION MATERIAL AND A SPACER MEANS TO KEEP THE LAYERS APART. PREFERABLY THE SPACER MEANS IS A MESH AND THE FILTRATION MATERIAL (10) IS ONE THAT CAN RETAIN PARTICLES LARGER THAN 10 MICRON. THE COMPOSITE FILTRATION MATERIAL (10) MAY BE USED IN A LIQUID TREATMENT APPARATUS THAT HAS A HOUSING (1) WHICH ENCLOSES A COMPARTMENT PARTIALLY FILLED WITH PULVERISED ACTIVATED CARBON AND WHERE, BEFORE EXITING THE SYSTEM LIQUID MAY BE EXPOSED TO A MAGNETIC FIELD. PREFERABLY MULTIPLE COMPARTMENTS ARE FORMED BY CONNECTING PARTS OF THE LIQUID TREATMENT APPARATUS TO EACH OTHER WHEREIN THE COMPARTMENTS CAN CONTAIN OTHER FORMS OF FILTER MATERIAL SUCH AS RESINS. ADVANTAGEOUSLY THE COMPOSITE FILTRATION MATERIAL (10) IS UTILISED IN WATER TREATMENT SYSTEMS SUCH AS HOUSEHOLD WATER FILTERING SYSTEMS.
