A DEVICE FOR GENERATING A LARGE NUMBER OF CARRIER SIGNALS AT DIFFERENT WAVELENGTHS IN A SINGLE CARRIER COMPRISES A FABRY-PEROT LASER HAVING A PLURALITY OF PAIRS OF REFLECTORS (3,9; 4,8; 5,7) ON EACH SIDE OF AN ACTIVE LASER MEDIUM (6), EACH PAIR OF REFLECTORS (3,9; 4,8; 5,7) BEING CAPABLE OF REFLECTING A DIFFERENT WAVELENGTH, ONE REFLECTOR (3,4,5) OF EACH PAIR BEING POSITIONED ON ONE SIDE OF THE ACTIVE LASER MEDIUM (6) AND THE OTHER REFLECTOR (9,8,7) OF EACH PAIR BEING POSITIONED ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ACTIVE LASER MEDIUM (6) WITH THE REFLECTORS (3,4,5) ON ONE SIDE OF THE ACTIVE LASER MEDIUM (6) BEING POSITIONED IN THE SAME POSITIONS RELATIVE TO THE FIBRE AND TO EACH OTHER AS THEIR PAIRED REFLECTORS (9,8,7) ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ACTIVE LASER MEDIUM (6) A PUMPING LASER (1) BEING COUPLED TO THE FIRST REFLECTOR (3) ON ONE SIDE OF THE ACTIVE LASER MEDIUM (6) AND AN OUTPUT PORT (10B) BEING COUPLED TO THE LAST REFLECTOR (9) ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ACTIVE LASER MEDIUM (6).
