PIGMENT COMPOSITION THE PRESENT INVENTION RELATES TO A PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF COATED PAPER OR PAPERBOARD COMPRISING A STEP OF APPLYING A PIGMENT COMPOSITION AS A COATING TO AT LEAST 5 ONE SIDE OF A PAPER OR PAPERBOARD WEB, SAID PIGMENT COMPOSITION BEING AN AQUEOUS DISPERSION COMPRISING AS PIGMENT PARTJCIES OPTIONALLY AGGREGATED COLLOIDAL PARTICLES OF SILICA OR ALUMINOSILICATE PREPARED FROM ALKALI METAL SILICATE BY ION EXCHANGE OR PH- REDUCTION AND HAVING A SURFACE AREA FROM ABOUT 30 M2/G TO ABOUT 450 M2/G , AND AT LEAST ONE CATIONIC COMPONENT SELECTED FROM THE GROUP CONSISTING OF WATER SOLUBLE ALUMINIUM 10 SALTS AND CATIONIC POLYMERS WITH A MOLECULAR WEIGHT FROM ABOUT 2000 TO ABOUT 1000000 AND A CHARGE DENSITY FROM ABOUT 0.2 MEQ/G TO ABOUT 12 MEQ/G, WHEREIN AT LEAST ABOUT 0.4 G PIGMENT PARTICLES FROM THE PIGMENT COMPOSITION ARE APPLIED PER M2 COATED SIDE OF THE PAPER OR PAPER BOARD WEB.
