WRAPPERS OF SMOKING ARTICLES HAVING SLIT BANDED REGIONS (10) EXHIBIT BOTH LOW IGNITION PROPENSITY AND REDUCED RATES OF SELF-EXTINGUISHMENT UNDER FREE BURN CONDITIONS. IN ONE EMBODIMENT, THE SLIT BANDED REGIONS COMPRISES FIRST (11), SECOND (12) AND THIRD (13) ZONES, WITH THE SECOND ZONE HAVING GREATER PERMEABILITY THAT THE FIRST AND THIRD ZONES, WHICH COMPRISE ADD-ON MATERIAL. A METHOD OF MAKING THE WRAPPER AS IS ALSO DISCLOSED, AS ARE SMOKING ARTICLES INCLUDING THE WRAPPERS.
