Abstract

A BODILY FLUID ABSORBENT ARTICLE IMPROVED SO AS TO PREVENT THE ABSORBENT STRUCTURE FROM TWISTING DURING ACTUAL USE OF THE ARTICLE AND TO PROVIDE A METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING SUCH A BODILY FLUID ABSORBENT ARTICLE. A PANTY LINER 1 INCLUDES TOP-AND BACK SHEETS (2,3) LIQUID-ABSORBENT CORE (4) AND A LEAKAGE-BARRIER SHEET (5) COVERING THE BACKSHEET. AS MATERIAL OF THE TOP-AND BACKSHEETS, A FIBROUS NONWOVEN FABRIC CONTAINING A THERMOPLASTIC SYNTHETIC RESIN IS USED AND, AS MATERIAL OF THE CORE, FLUFF PULP IS USED. THE TOP SHEET IS FORMED WITH A PLURALITY OF GROOVES (7) DEPRESSED TOWARD THE BACKSHEET. THE GROOVES EXTEND SO AS TO INTERSECT WITH EACH OTHER IN THE LONGITUDINAL DIRECTION (Y) AS WELL AS IN THE TRANSVERSE DIRECTION (X) AND THEREBY TO FORM A LATTICE PATTERN. EACH OF THE GROOVES HAS A FIRST PORTION (8) FORMED TO BE DEPRESSED FROM THE TOP SHEET TOWARD THE CORE AND A BASED SECOND PORTION (9) FORMED SO AS TO BE FURTHER DEPRESSED FROM A LOWER END (8A) OF THE FIRST PORTION TOWARD THE BACKSHEET SO THAT A DISTANCE BETWEEN OPPOSITE SIDE WALLS MAY BE GRADUALLY REDUCED FROM THE LOWER END OF THE FIRST PORTION TOWARD THE BACKSHEET. IN THE SECOND PORTIONS, FIBERS FORMING THE TOPSHEET AND FIBERS FORMING THE BACKSHEET ARE AT LEAST PARTIALLY CONTACTED AND WELDED TOGETHER.
