Abstract

In a vehicle body side structure including a sub pillar branched off downwardly from a front pillar and a front quarter window glass sheet, the part of the front pillar from which the sub pillar branches off and where the cross sectional shape of the front pillar changes is prevented from becoming a weak spot, and the mechanical strength of the front pillar against an axial force is improved. In a part ahead of the sub pillar, an outer panel ( 11 ) is formed with a stepped portion defining a mounting surface (24) for securing a pe1ipheral part of the front windshield glass sheet adjacent to a welding point (17) on the side of the front quarter window glass sheet ( 4 ), and the stiffener (12) is formed with a pair of ridge lines (34 and 35) extending in the lengthwise direction. One of the ridge lines is located inside the stepped portion of the outer panel, and the two ridge lines formed in the part of the stiffener ahead of the sub pillar are smoothly connected to a pair of ridge lines formed in the part of the stiffener behind the sub pillar.
