Abstract
A PROBLEM ADDRESSED BY THE PRESENT INVENTION IS TO PROVIDE AN INEXPENSIVE AIR CONDITIONER CAPABLE OF PERFORMING MILD AIR-WARMING SUITED FOR REGIONS REQUIRING AIR-WARMING ONLY FOR SHORT PERIODS. IN AN AIR CONDITIONER (1), A CONTROL UNIT (50) DOES NOT START AN AIR-WARMING OPERATION WHEN AN OUTSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE (TO) IS LESS THAN A PRESCRIBED OUTSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE (TOS) BECAUSE FROSTING OCCURS IMMEDIATELY ON AN OUTDOOR HEAT EXCHANGER (17). ALSO, EVEN IF THE AIR-WARMING OPERATION IS STARTED WHEN THE OUTSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE (TO) IS A PRESCRIBED OUTSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE (TOS) OR GREATER, IF AN EVAPORATION TEMPERATURE (TE) BECOMES LESS THAN A THRESHOLD VALUE (TS1), THE CONTROL UNIT (50) PERFORMS DROOP CONTROL OF A COMPRESSOR (13), AND SUPPRESSES FROSTING OF THE OUTDOOR HEAT EXCHANGER (17). FURTHERMORE, WHEN THE EVAPORATION TEMPERATURE (TE) DURING THE ABOVEMENTIONED DROOP CONTROL FALLS BELOW A THRESHOLD VALUE (TS2), OR WHEN THE OUTSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE (TO) FALLS BELOW THE PRESCRIBED OUTSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE (TOS), THE CONTROL UNIT (50) STOPS THE COMPRESSOR (13) AND PREVENTS FROSTING OF THE OUTDOOR HEAT EXCHANGER (17).
