Abstract
TO PROVIDE A PLANT CULTIVATION MANAGEMENT METHOD AND A LIGHTING DEVICE CAPABLE OF OBTAINING AN INSECT-REPELLING EFFECT WHILE AVOIDING DELAY IN FLOWERING OR CONTROLLING FLOWERING REACTION OF SHORT-DAY PLANTS SUCH AS CHRYSANTHEMUM. THE PRESENT INVENTION IS A PLANT CULTIVATION METHOD USING ILLUMINATION, WHEREIN THE ILLUMINATION IS CONDUCTED USING A PLURALITY OF LIGHT SOURCES THAT EMIT LIGHT HAVING AN EMISSION PEAK WAVELENGTH IN GREEN TO RED REGIONS, EACH LIGHT SOURCE OF THE PLURAL LIGHT SOURCES EMITS LIGHT HAVING AN INTENSITY THAT VARIES SYNCHRONOUSLY IN A FLASHING PATTERN INCLUDING A PREDETERMINED LIGHT PERIOD DURATION AND A DARK PERIOD DURATION HAVING A SMALLER TIME AVERAGE BRIGHTNESS THAN THE LIGHT PERIOD DURATION AS ONE CYCLE, IN THE PATTERN, A DUTY REPRESENTED BY THE FOLLOWING FORMULA (1) IS LESS THAN OR EQUAL TO 50%, DUTY (%) = LIGHT PERIOD DURATION/(LIGHT PERIOD DURATION + DARK PERIOD DURATION) X 100 (1), AND AT LEAST PART OF THE REGION ILLUMINATED BY THE PLURAL LIGHT SOURCES HAS AN INSECT-REPELLING EFFECT BY BEING ILLUMINATED BY COMBINATION OF ILLUMINATION PATTERNS FROM THE PLURAL LIGHT SOURCES.
