Abstract

[Object] A system that provides high quality compost in a short period is required for treatment of livestock manure. [Solution] Steel slag, which is a byproduct generated from a steelmaking process in the iron industry that has not been effectively used in the past, is reused as a mixed raw material with livestock manure in order to promote composting, and to efficiently use soluble silicic acid, lime, and iron included in the steel slag as a fertilizer resource. Accordingly, an increase in temperature when composting starts may be promoted, which makes the temperature of a mixture of the livestock manure and the steel slag reach at least 50 °C within 48 hours after mixing and sets the moisture content to 30% to 50%, thereby shortening compost production time.
