Abstract
A method for vehicle license plate recognition "vhich automatically recognizes the characters and the numbers from an image ( 41) of a vehicle (300) including characters and numbers includes receiving the image of the vehicle (SI 10). converting the characters and the numbers included in the image ( 4 I) of the vehicle (300) into binary characters and binary numbers using structural features of the characters and the numbers and outputting a binary stroke image (S 120) including the binary characters and the binary numbers, estimating a license plate region (S 130) using a plate naming rule from the binary stroke image ( 43-1 ), segmenting the binary characters and the binary numbers included in the estimated license plate region (S 140) using the plate naming rule, and recognizing the characters and the numbers included in the image ( 41) of the vehicle (300) using one of character recognizers based on the segmented binary characters and the segmented binary numbers.
