Abstract

In the method of production of non-carcinogenic aromatic process oil containing less than 3.0% of PCA extract according to the IP-346. The process involves treating petroleum oil fractions with selective solvents, followed by the extract recovery by means of the oils selective treatment, and lastly additional treatment of the extract with the polar solvent along with recovering of the raffinate as the target product. Under this method propylene carbonate is used as the polar solvent for the feedstock (extract) treatment. This feedstock is a mix of the extract obtained from the oils selective treatment at the stage of the oil fractions treatment and the recycled raffinate solution produced during the stage of additional treatment. Part of the raffinate solution, obtained as a result of the additional treatment, is added to the extract, obtained from the oils selective treatment. The balance of the raffinate solution undergoes solvent recovery. The extract solution produced during the additional treatment is likewise routed to the solvent recovery unit. The ratio of the feedstock to the polar solvent at the additional treatment stage falls in the range of (0,67-0,2): 1. The technical innovation results in increased efficiency of the method by means of reduced inertia of the extractor, increased selectivity of the process, and optimized extractant recovery from the raffinate solution by discontinued use of the paraffin-naphthenic solvent.
