Abstract

A biofilter (10) for biofiltration of waste gases comprises a reactor (11) having a bottom portion and a top portion. The reactor (11) includes an inlet (17) connected at the bottom portion for directing the waste gases to be treated into of the reactor (11) and an outlet (18) connected at the top portion for directing the filtered gases out from the reactor (11). At least one layer of compost-based packing material (12) contained in the reactor (11) to receive the waste gases therethrough and sustaining microorganisms for performing biofiltration of the waste gases, wherein the compost-based packing material (12) is characterized by including a mixture of compost with nano woodchips.
