Abstract

The present disclosure discloses a network element and a method for controlling the network element to join a network. The method comprises: a network element sends a first protocol message to an upper-level node network element, the first protocol message carrying no network management channel Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) information (S10); the network element receives a second protocol message sent by the upper-level node network element based on the first protocol message, and establishes a communication connection with a network management server according to the network management channel VLAN information carried by the second protocol message, the network management channel VLAN information carried by the second protocol message being the VLAN information provided by the upper-level node network element for the next-level node network element thereof to establish a network management channel (S20). In the present disclosure, a network element automatically obtains the network management channel VLAN information from an upper-level node network element connected to the network element as the network management channel VLAN information of the network element itself, and establishes a network management channel according to the network management channel VLAN information, thus allowing the network element to establish a communication connection with a network management server.
