Abstract

A hydraulic lash adjuster (11) includes: a body (12) having an adjuster cylinder (16) therein; a plunger (13) engaged in the body so as to be able to project from and retract into the body; a high pressure chamber (17) supplied with the hydraulic fluid from the low pressure chamber (15) of the plunger via the check valve (18); an inner sleeve (14) provided within the low pressure chamber of the plunger and having a communication hole (14a) at the tip end thereof; and a closing member (20) provided inside the inner sleeve, having a path that extends in a longitudinal direction of the inner sleeve and through which the hydraulic fluid can flow, and being able to move inside the inner sleeve. The closing member restricts flow of the hydraulic fluid via the communication hole when an inclination angle of the plunger is horizontal or less. Figure 1
