Abstract

A steel for a high-specularity plastic die is a steel material containing 0.20 to 0.50 mass% of C and 10.50 to 20.00 mass% of Cr. When carbide-dense regions in the steel material, the grain size of carbides constituting the dense regions being not less than 5 ?m by projected area diameter, the distance between carbides being no more than 30 ?m, and the area of the carbide-dense regions being no less than 1000 ?m2 are designated as material grains, the maximum length of the material grains is not more than 1000 ?m and the area ratio of the material grains is not more than 2.0%. Thus, specularity can be improved by regulating the size of material grains associated with the carbidedense regions.
