Abstract

A vehicle-axle-number detection device (100) includes: an image acquisition unit (101) for acquiring a captured image from an image capturing device (10C) for producing a captured image that includes a tire of a vehicle, the image being captured from a front side in a travel direction of the vehicle toward a rear side in the travel direction ; a tire extraction unit (102) for performing pattern-matching on the captured image acquired by the image acquisition unit (101) and a plurality of reference images stored in advance in a storage unit (106), which are images containing a vehicle tire, and extracting the tire contained in the captured image; and a vehicle-axle-number identification unit (103) for identifying the number of axles of the vehicle on the basis of the result of the tire extraction.
