Abstract

A System (1) for treatment of the filtrate comprises an evaporation means that utilizes heat from residual steam discharged from a steam turbine and/or a sterilizer of the palm oil mill to treat the filtrate, specifically to further concentrate it, prior to it being discharged to a rotating scraping evaporator/rotating drum dryer or a spray drying apparatus. The evaporation means in one case comprises a plurality of evaporation columns, arranged and connected sequentially, wherein falling thin film evaporation of the filtrate is conducted. The filtrate, after completing treatment in the plurality of evaporation columns, has 80% to 90% of its water content is extracted. Concentrated filtrate from the last evaporation column is discharged to a rotating scraping evaporator/rotating drum dryer or a spray drying apparatus which reduce the filtrate to filtrate residue that is in thick slurry or solid form. In another embodiment of the System (1) the evaporation means comprises a combination of falling thin film evaporation column/columns and forced circulation evaporator/evaporators. (Fig.3)
