Abstract
A raw material of cerium-based abrasives made of a crushed product having an untamped density of more than 0.60 g/cm3 and 1.50 g/cm3 or less and a particle diameter at 50% in the cumulative volume distribution of 2 ?m or more and 20 ?m or less is manufactured through a step of dry crushing mixed rare earth oxides having a content of total rare earth elements in terms of oxides of 80 mass% or more, and a content of cerium in terms of oxide relative to the total rare earth elements in terms of oxides of 50 mass% or more. A cerium-based abrasive is manufactured by a manufacturing method comprising a step of pulverizing the raw material of cerium-based abrasives.
