Abstract
In a subterranean formation, complexation of metal ions can often be desirable in order to mitigate reactivity of the metal ions. However, many chelating agents used for this purpose are commercially manufactured in an alkali metal salt form that may not be entirely suitable for use downhole. The working pH range of some types of chelating agents may also be limiting. Accordingly, methods for treating a subterranean formation can comprise: providing an acidic treatment fluid comprising a sulfonated iminodiacetic acid; introducing the acidic treatment fluid into a subterranean formation; and at least partially dissolving an acid-reactive substance in the subterranean formation while complexing one or more metal ions with the sulfonated iminodiacetic acid.
